Sulawesi police catch schoolgirl murders

Sulawesi have caught 7 JI (Jemaah Islamiyah) operatives responsible for beheading 3 Christian schoolgirls in October 2005.

The 2005 killing sent a shock wave through Central Sulawesi, where tensions between Christians and Muslims exploded into violence before. Most of the people in that are used to get long fine until fanatics from Java went up there and started trouble, same story in Ambon.

The beheading’s were a deliberate attempt to outrage people and kick start more religious violence. The Scotsman says the 7 offenders confessed to police. I wonder what kind of encouragement they were given. There are stories about the police in Indonesia taking suspects on a moonlight boat ride and not everyone coming back. But at least they got the story straight.

NE Sulawesi is the home of some wonderdul diving with Manado, being the main town in that area.
