Jane,

Thanks for the comments. I am sure between Barrie and myself we can help you and your friends find suitable locations for your project.

I think in the lower Jl. Legian area at night there are definitely Bali Boys who hang around to pick up tourists, but they don’t seem threatening, just a bit cheeky. If you just relax and have a joke with them they present no real problem.

It was funny a couple of weeks ago as I was in a place playing pool with a freind and there was this 18 year old Bali Boy who was ‘trendied up’ to the max. He had picked up an Aussie woman aged about 28 and she was trying to let him beat her at pool. This poor kid was so bad that he couldn’t stop himself losing. Most of them are just kids from around Bali who don’t have much of an education and come to Kuta seeking fame and fortune.

Kuta Beach is the epicenter for the Cowboys during the day but if you go to beaches on the Bukit or head up past Legian they are fewer.

Most regular Local Indonesian / Balinese people are nice and polite. They are always good vibes and you won’t meet friendlier people anywhere. No worries about getting bad vibes from local women, the Javanese women strut their stuff on a daily basis so that having outsiders on ther scene is nothing new.

I cn recommend unpoilt beaches and locations that you will enjoy. Barrie can also fill in the cultural / language aspects.

Good luck with your course.

Bazza,
I bet ‘C’ will love reading that!
Jane, Barrie is not in Bali but could no doubt suggest a few places to check out…
Whoever told you all those stories is full of rubbish, the women will not gang up on you or do anything to harm you or intimidate you!
The men will not harras you unless you show interest in them, just be polite & friendly & say No, if you mean NO!
They will not harm you in anyway, or try to drag you down any alley ways or anything they will try to befriend you that is all. If your not interested then say so, but don’t be silly enough to ignore these people as they are often just trying to be kind & friendly You will miss out on a huge part of Bali if you try to stay away from the locals!.
It is safe to go alone even at night! No need to be so overly cautious…

Tracey/
Thanks for the reply as i feel a bit less cautious. I have been warned to watch if out at seaon a boat trip as there are reportedly Bali Bandits and i do not mean the Cowboys. These men are meant topatrolIndo waters kidnapping private yaughtsand stealing all the possessions from on board. Is there truth in this, although i cannot seemyself going out to sea farother than on local island cruises around the coast if there is any. I know i sound like a moaning bitch but peoplewill tryand putme off going on my own. You know what it is like, aither people are jealous or they think a girl is incapable of managing on her own. It is not as if the island is full of Cannibals or something is it ?
Oh and someone told me not to camp out in the wilds as there are giant Komodos in the wildsof Bali.

Love Jane

Hi Jane,

I really don’t know what you’ve been reading or who you’ve been listening to, but it’s all crap!. You will only find Komodo dragons on Komodo island. As far as the pirates are concerned, they are more interested in cargo ships ans besides, they ply the Malacca Straits and almost never enter Indonesian waters.

Obviously you have a lot of jealous friends and all I can say to you is that Bali IS VERY SAFE with beautiful and friendly people, great weather and unbelievably beautiful scenery.
You will be amazed at how many friends you will make whilst you are in Bali.

As Nick wrote, we will take care of you and your friends and help you where we can. I’ll be in Bali when you arrive and we can all meet up at the Internet Outpost.

Get on down to Bali and stop listening to those jealous forces trying to put you off your trip!.

Hi Tracey,

Trust a woman to back a woman!. I’m a good boy (He, he…!). Candika will be coming over from Java and will be there at the same time. However she will not be coming over for the rage in March. Then, I’m a bad boy!!
