Poppies Lane I, II & Jl. Benesari in Kuta used to be just sandy tracks that ran through fields of palm trees on the way to the beach. Over the years the lanes have slowly developed and now they have a brick surface, lined almost entirely with shops. To the visitor Poppies I, II & Jl. Benesari the lanes seem highly developed little concrete alleys, not the picture of Bali one would imagine.
I remember visiting Bali in 1993 with a friend from the US. We were on a strict budget and actually were looking at the possibility of camping! I remember strolling through the Poppies II & Benesari area and spotting areas of undeveloped land. There are actually still areas of undeveloped land between Jl. Legian and the beach, which must me worth a ton of money. Right in front of Good Luck restaurant on Jl. Benesari is a chunk of open space behind the wall that has been untouched. I actually like seeing chunks of forest and field next to the city. Down in Sanur there is some simply lovely land that is heavily forested and just a block off of the main drag.
My buddy Mike Hillis said that land in Sanur is like Beverly Hills, you have to be loaded to even think of buying it. Across the Bypass on the kaja side things get much cheaper.

G’Day Nick,
There is another stretch of open land on Jl Majapahit that has to be worth a mint.
