A few days ago Sean and I were walking along Jalan Legian, sun seering, temperature in the 90's and we were trying to get through our to do list. For some reason I was in a pissed off mood ( yes, it happens ). A Balinese local called out to me ‘hey, my friend, marijuana’. I turned and snapped back ‘stick it up your ass’ which delighted Sean.
When we pass an overly aggressive street merchant we look at each other and say ‘stick it up your ass’.

i never could really get over the aggressiveness of the hawkers. maybe if i lived there awhile and totally avoided the places where tourists go, i might change my mind. but even in sanur, the aggressiveness and constant “in your face”-ness was pretty annoying.
Reminds me of telemarketing in the U.S. Just never give up, never apologize for inconveniencing you, calling at the best time for them and the worse time for the potential customer. But they stay with it because they’re making money. Same all over the world.
