A lovely day here in Kuta Bali. Perfect sunshine and not too steamy, yes its tropical but pleasant.
I visited a hotel on Jalan Legian almost opposite Poppies II called Sri Kusama. I am doing a report on some of these places trying to highlight what makes them special. This place is located across the street from the old Maccaroni restaurant that was bomb damaged and has a Dunkin Donuts in the front.
The great thing about Sri Kusama is its location right on Jalan Legian close to the restaurants and night spots. Wijaya the manager gave me a free Guinness…..think I’ll have to do a follow up report tomorrow.
I looked inside the site of Maccaroni and saw construction going on. Its neighbor has wasted no time in converting to a Dome coffee shop.
Its interesting to see how the area in the immediate vicinity of the bombing has recovered. I’m sure to newly arrived tourists the area has no special significance but to those here previously, or me seeing its development every day we watch with interest.
A brand new surf shop now operates on the site of the old Aloha surf shop (Jl. Legian & Poppies II ). Wonder what will become of the Sari Club site.

Great to see all the new construction. Now all they need is the travelers to come back.
i only wish i could be there!!! was so tempted with those $600rt+hotel from singapore airlines…
Hey,
I love seeing the construction going on, the highlighting of accomadation that previously was not there or called something else! Already 3 days Barrie… Jeepers Time flies!
I only have 51 sleeps to go, just over 7 weeks!
People that are coming over for our wedding are saying they are nervous because of Terrorist Threats & SARS & other various reasons they can conjur up! Let us know the feelings from the street & the safety you feel there, so I can passs your comments on to friends, who are panicking. I told them I would not return with my daughter if I was worried! Some people just need to be in the cmfort & safety of their same old same old!
Catch ya later……
Hi Tracey,
Tak lama dan kamu akan tiba di Bali lho!
Tracey, it is super-safe over here. Well that’s my feeling and I have walked the streets from Seminyak to Tuban (courtesy of my wife’s mania for shopping!), and even the back streets at night.
Everywhere I have been, the people have been super-friendly and seem to hanging out for a chin-wag with westerners!.
Without a doubt I can truly say that I have felt really safe here in Bali. Security is everywhere although you don’t see it. I did an exercise yesterday and sat down in Jl Legian and just watched the various comings and goings - they are there in the background!. The people are beautiful, the food is great and cheap, the beer is ALWAYS COLD, and for you ladies who like to empty wallets (and bank acounts), the shopping is unbelievable.
COME ON DOWN AND CHILL OUT IN BALI!!!
Thanks Barrie,
I will certainly pass this on to some frightened little chickens from my family & some friends too.
I told them it would be fine, but I can now say…”My Mate Barrie, is currently there & said it is SUPER SAFE!” I don’t think I will have much time for shopping!
Lima Puluh hari lagi!!!!!
I cannot wait really excited & can’t wait to see my hubby!!!!
Thanks, I will pass on these words to one & all…… Cheers… Home time!!!!

I have to be careful what I write cos Nick is sitting right behind me on the lounge with laptop on knee!. I think he is pretending to know how to use it. He does look very professional!.
Good to see the restaurants being highlighted as it gives all those coming to Bali an idea of where to go for a great feed!.
I have been here 3 days now, and, for anyone contemplating visiting this beautiful island….Pack your case and get over here!!. IT’S FABULOUS!!!.
