Sharyn's trip to Bali - November 2005: Tailor-made Stuff and Shoes

Edward Forrer on JL Legian (somewhere near JL Benesari) is still great value for sandals and handbags - all made under their own label. On average women's shoes are about $AUD20 per pair (Rp 140,000) and are good quality-I'm still wearing a pair from 3 years ago.

I had the rest of my shoes custom-made at Ramadan Leather on Poppies Lane 2. These guys were terrific, in fours days (including two fittings) they made me two gorgeous pair of snakeskin sandals, a pair of red snakeskin boots (woo-hoo), copied a suit jacket into red leather and made two copies of my absolute favourite tote bag-I think this splurge cost me a whole $AUD250 (RP 1.8M)!!

Further down Poppies Lane 2 we found Jonokan Tailors (or perhaps Jolokan - please forgive my faulty memory and erratic spelling)-they're easy to find as they are down past Pub Bagus (more on that later) and directly opposite the DVD shop. This was probably the busiest tailor in the area-and for good reason. I had two wool blend suits and a matching longer-line jacket made, along with a lovely cheong-sam, for about $AUD200 (Rp 140,000). The only drawback with this store is that it is open fronted and therefore lacking air-conditioning-the fittings can be quite a trial-but the final product is definitely worth the effort.

Hey guys!
I’m coming to Bali (from bloody cold Finland) with my girlfriend straight after Xmas, and we’re both hoping to get a bit of surfing and shopping done.

I’d just like to ask where would be the best place for a guy to get a tailor-made suit. I was hoping to get a cool pinstripe suit with silk lining and maybe 4 or 5 shirts done as well. How much should I reserve money for all this?

Oh and just before finishing, can anyone give some tips on where we should start surfing, seeing as we’re both complete beginners. If possible the east side of Bali would be best as we are staying in Sanur, although we will naturally be coming to Kuta and the west side as well.

That’s all for now, any replies are much appreciated and if anyone wants to drop me a line, my email is arttu.sjostedt ( at ) hut.fi

Thanks!

Hey dude. Maybe wanna chill out a bit. Haven’t actually read one decent comment from you. Sure I can understand that some people don’t wanna buy suits from Bali, but seeing as I’m a student with a very tight budget, I am considering this option. And anyways, I wasn’t really asking for your opinion on if I should get a suit or not, just wanted to know good places to get one.

Seriously, please take a break and think a little while before answering something completely useless. Thanks, that’s all!
