Sharyn Roberts shares her last visit to Bali with us, with tips and stories of where she went and what she did.
A friend and I - both regular Bali visitors - recently had a 9 day holiday in Bali where the main objectives were shopping, swimming, drinking and sleeping - order being dependent on weather and energy levels. Having spent far more of my time in determined shopping, drinking and eating activities than in my previous few trips, I have generously decided to share our trip with you.
Accommodation:
I had previously only stayed in Kuta/Legian (aside from one overly romantic week in Sanur many years ago which I’d rather not think about) and was keen to try Seminyak. At the recommendation of a number of friends we chose Villa Rumah Manis, both for considerations of privacy and also price and location. The resort is located just off Jl. Seminyak on Jl. Nakula, which is a great spot, being within easy walking distance of both Jl. Double Six and Rum Jungle Road - you could probably walk to the beach, but we didn't bother-too much like hard work.
The resort is small and peaceful with the villas each having private plunge pool and bale facilities, along with a larger communal pool and standard restaurant. It was hard to judge the clientele as occupancy was way down-but it appeared to be mainly shopping and dinner oriented 25-45 year olds in small groups and couples-perfect. This is not a resort for those who wish to spend all day swimming back and forth to the pool bar with crowds of other likeminded loungers. The pool is small but pretty, the pool bar basic and the restaurant is only really used at breakfast - but with your own pool and all those wonderful bars and restaurant at your front door-why would you stay at the resort. Although-allow me to recommend the pizza supreme if you are ever so-inclined.
