Security in Jakarta beefed up over Christmas

Terrorism is an ever present threat during the Christmas season ever since 2000, where churches were attacked. This year the Indonesian security forces are taking no chances, dressing up as Santa and performing security measures outside churches across Jakarta.

Reason news suggested that JI (Jemaah Islamiyah) may be short of money and may have changed its modus operandi, perferring to kidnap hih profile people, instead of blowing places up. So far we have had no reports of trouble across the country.

The vibe in Bali as always is one of mild ignorance. Most locals are grappling with their own ecoconmy and westerners who live here seem more concerned with checking out land prices and getting a latte. I’m getting on with my articles and hoping for a trouble free New Years
