The Jakarta Post carried and article today about the fate of Ron Bakir, a friend of Schapelle Corby, the accused drug-trafficker. Mr. Bakir has never met Schapelle but became involved with the case after listening to his secretary, who had heard about it. Since then he has funded Schapelles defense and recently spoke about the case on an Australian radio show. During the show Mr. Bakir said that the prosecution had tried to secure a bribe in return for a lighter sentence. Heavens above! Corruption in Indonesia? I never knew that went on over here. I am totally amazed!!!
Hastily back-tracking, Mr. Bakir retracted his comments and wrote a letter of apology, hoping his comments will not stop him from attending the verdict / sentencing phase on Friday.
That conversation with Bob recently mentioned Solutions and they are available. I credit President SBY for sticking to his guns and prosecuting corrupt officials, someone has got to start somewhere.
