Schapelle Corby: Appeal in Denpasar Bali

The Schapelle Corby trial once again reopened, has seen 2 Qantas employees from the Brisbane airport testify before Denpasar District court. I don't know what they intended to say but if its not directly related to who owned the marijuana she is carrying, it better be some kind of documented proof that when Corby's bags passed through scanners in Brisbane that there was absolutely no way 4kgs of drugs could of been inside. Hearsay means nothing, as does emotion.

Corby's lawyer Hotman Paris Hutapea has been making a lot of noise recently about how the Australian goverment has let Corby down. He complained that the governement hasn't phoned him to discuss witness immunity. This is 'gorrilla dust' as far as I'm concerned, its a smoke-screen. Hotman is trying to deflect attention and criticism of his case and instead of finding new evidence or admiting he has none, its easier to make the Australian government the bad guy. I sence the Australian government is getting very sick of this whole charade, with prisoners, conmen, shady business men and TV deals all blurring the view.

An Australian tourist I spoke to earlier this week told me that back in Australia there is so much media attention on the case that it is hard to know what to believe. Here in Bali we get a bit international news and a lot of grass roots comments from other expats. Australians who don't know each other have independently told me they think she's guilty and have background info to suggest that (once again hearsay).

You take your pick I reckon and I hope Corby can be relocated to better situation in Australia as soon as possible.

Hi

Yeah apparently (SMH online) the pot was weighed in again today and was 500 gms. down on the original amount she was arrested with. Various police officers sported an idiotic grin as this was made known to the court. Perhaps if the case can be spun out long enough the evidence might just disappear..

What I would like to know is how the baggage handlers and check-in staff (those who are giving evidence) precisely remember Corby.

Staff at the check-ins see hundreds of people a day. Baggage handlers who work behind the scenes of check-in handle hundreds of bags per day.

So, after all these months these people can excactly remember Corby’s bodybag on that exact day she checked-in?.

Go figure….

Yes a good deal all round. Somebody gets some cash, somebody gets 3.5kg of pot and Schapelle’s chances get better. Don’t you love co operation.

Hi There Nick and Baz
Well I reckon for a free trip to Bali and my face on the news I too would remember our Schapelle……NOT
Call me a cynic but I think they’re running out of options and that Hotman dude is just a joke. I think his credability disappeared when they had to bleep out every second word he said in his interviews. Sad as it is though I too hope she can spend her days in a more pleasant environment.

Hi Di!,

Totally agree with you. Hotman is running cold now and getting colder by the hour. It won’t be long and he’ll drop out as her legal rep simply because he is not getting enough of the limelight.

As far as him saying that he ain’t getting paid for it, me thinks bullshit!. He should return to JKT and let some Oz lawyers experienced in Indo Law represent Corby.

Now it’s off to the Supreme court. And, the band plays on….

Barrie,
Yes that useless twat Hotman will drop out of the limelite when he realizes the dead horse he has been flogging ain’t gonna get up. Sadly though, he’ll blame everyone but himself.

I am english and was in OZ when she was sent down. I believe she is innocent and also feel as a young man of the world that even if she was guilty it is wrong to be sent to prison for 20 years. Idont care that this is their law it’s an absolute joke. Murderers and rapists should get that. Why would anyone take drugs into Bali, I think it to be more sensible to take it out. She should be freed and at least allowed to serve her sentance at home.
