Indonesian President SBY (Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono) visited an estasy factory today as part of his crackdown on drugs. With the recent drug cases of Schapelle Corby, the Bali Nine and Michelle Leslie, one can only wonder at the sentences that will be handed out for the people involved in this case.
According to the Jakarta Post, nationals of France and Holland were arrested in the 3rd biggest estasy factory in the world. Police captured 62.4 tons of precursor chemicals for producing crystal methamphetamine and 6.2 tons of precursor chemicals for making ecstasy! They also found so much drugs that the people involved better look forward to the next lifetime rather than relying on this one.
One has to wonder, did SBY help himself to a couple of scoobie snacks when the cops weren't looking. I mean all the press about Michelle Corby has got to have the old general wondering "Just what am I missing?" Let me tell SBY, do it on an empty stomach, make sure its clean and do it with friends.

When Indonesians are caught breaking laws in foreign countries, the Indonesia government *always* gets involved screaming about the innocence of the Indonesians involved. Large demomnstrations outside foreign embassies in Jakarta are also organized.
Your Comments;
Let me tell SBY, do it…
Do you, the most prolific contributer to the Baliblog support the use of illegal drugs.
When will foreigners in Indonesia start respecting the laws and cultures of this country and stop throwing their imported ideals and lifestyles in the face of ordinary Indonesians !
>>>>one can only wonder at the sentences<<<<
If you cant do the time : Dont do the crime.
It would help tourism if he requisitioned that large stash and handed out a couple of free scoobie snacks with the visa on arrival (making it 60 days). Also legalize pot. The current law has nothing to do with protecting public health as can be seen from the low price and unrestricted sale of tobacco which kills over 150,000 Indonesians each year. I don’t think many Indonesians support the death penalty for drug offences. Most of the people doing illicit drugs in Indonesia are Indonesians after all.
Nickaroo,
No matter where I am at in the world I am always checking in on the blog.
My advise, revise your comment immediately. Dont set yourself up now for something later.
Remove it today.

Nick,
I just want to tell you that Indonesia has a law that prohibits anyone from defaming and mocking the sitting President.
President/Dictator Suharto introduced this law back in the early 70s to silent and arrest his critics, and it did a good job for him. As far as I know, that law has not been revoked yet.
I have read reports of ordinary people got into troubles for poking fun at Megawati when she was in office. However, I have not heard of that law being used against anyone during SBY yet, but you surely don’t want to be the first one.
You must realize that Indonesians regard poking fun at their president as an insult to their country.
Take care nick.
Tony, you keep writing like that, SBY may just shut down this blog for good, or worse throw nick in jail for condoning comments like yours.
We all believe in the freedom of speech, but those incendiary comments like your are dangerous and harmfull.
I am sure SBY is a big enough guy to take a bit of slapstick humour. Indonesia is now a democracy of sorts and a world away from the days of Suharto thankfully where poets were locked up and mercilessly beaten for opposing views. The authoritarians are up the road in Singapore..
Guys, I doubt you will believe but the truth is that most Indonesians fanatically believe that if you smoke a joint you will die, or you will end-up dead within one month because of drugs addiction
No kidding, I know this sounds crazy. People in that country have absolutely no knowledge of drugs and just listen what government says without thinking even for a second, so don’t be surprised if you see such articles. It’s typical for Indonesian not to ask questions nor to think, so I believe there will be no change in this area. Anyway, there is no benefit for government to legalise MJ as government is behind running the drugs business and make big Rp out of it. They also don’t want to see imported drugs to hit on their business, so for this reason they attack the foreigners transporting drugs and not the domestic producers. The one in Indonesia who go to jail are the one who make competition, or who don’t want to share the profits out of the drug business.
RESPECT MY COUNTRY!!! Indonesia.
we Indonesians aren’t as stupid or uneducated as u think. yes, we have major problems in our country, especially with the increase of drug abuse.
but who supports these habits? yes, of course some Indonesians support it (which countries don’t do drugs? but tourists… u guys also support drug abuse in Indonesia BIG TIME!!!!!!!!! the majority of young foreigners travelling into Jakarta or Bali to ‘party’… the term party is used to justify anything (alcohol, drugs, etc). and then most of you get out of control in our streets in Bali, yelling, cursing, fighting with locals. u guys seem to want to own the island… what u dont realize is, the whole of Indonesia is a cultured country. in fact it is really rich with its culture, and when you guys westernize us, that takes away our valuable culture. when u come to travel and visit our country, RESPECT the culture. RESPECT the tradition. RESPECT our values. u wanna have fun and ‘party’ its your choice, because I have to admit that Indonesia is a fucking good place to party but when u do so, REALIZE the consequences!!!!!!
the foreigners that were caught because of drug trafficking, did u guys really think they didnt know about the drug law in Indonesia?? Bullshit!!!!! as soon as u land in Ngurah Rai Airport, there is a sign declaring that drug users will get death penalty. warnings are everywhere, yet they choose to ignore…. who’s fault???? play safe guys when u travel and dont just blame our government for an individual’s fault. and don’t stereotype us… we indonesians are developing, and I believe the younger generations are more aware of such issues, we just need more people to realize this issue.
Fay
Why do you bring up an article, with such emotion, that is 3 years old?
Yes forigners respect Indonesia and some dont. That is the case with laws and legal aspects that every country in the world deals with.
I think SBY is a good president (personaly).. But I do think that there needs to be work on the “Rule of Law” in Indonesia.
And I admit the author of this article went too far!

Death sentences should be handed down to the foreign nationals involved in the manufacture of these substances…
