Today was the day Peter and Aiko left for Taiwan before flying home to Japan a few days later.
My day started by doing part of a hotel review for a place on Jl. Dhyana Pura called Hotel Saphir Bali. This is a mid level place with recently renovated rooms. Prices are very reasonable right now and being located on Dhyana Pura means guests only have a short walk to the beach and the party action at night.
I was waiting for the sales manager and decided to take a break and grab some nasi padang (the spicy stuff from Sumatra ) from a place on upper Jl. Seminyak called ‘Pondok Dua’. They do some nice stuff and I ate tuna in sauce, cabbage in sauce, potato cake, spinach and a big bowl of rice for 8,000rp.
Right after I rode over to the house where Peter and Aiko were staying. I knew they were leaving but didn’t know the schedule. Part of Palu’s grill was still at their place and he asked me to find it. As I approached the front door it opened and out came Peter and Aiko with suitcases…how about that for timing!
I thanked them for the great time on Sunday and managed to locate the missing bbq piece. Chucking a large suitcase on my lap I rode to the main road and hailed a cab for them. We said our goodbyes and Peter promised to stay in touch and send me the photos from the bbq.
Peter told me their place cost 500,000rp per day which was great value to them. It had total privacy, a pool, kitchen, lounge area and an AC bedroom.
Back at the house I made myself and one of my new cleaners ( Made) a coffee then headed back to Saphir Hotel to meet the young Sales manager and gather info.
Late in the afternoon I strolled along Kuta Beach to check out the scene. Its always a very mixed bag with Muslim tourists from Java mixing with other from Taiwan, Europe as well as all the locals who hang around there. Surfers are catching the last waves of the day and soccer games sprout up all over. No sign of ‘Made the mango queen’ so back to a packed Internet Outpost I went.
