Saturday was another lovely sunny day here in Seminyak Bali.
The autumn season is generally dry although we did get a small shower the other day. The humidity is creeping up though and will continue to do so right through until January.
This morning I watered the lawn and plants, something I’ve been getting into. I don’t touch much of anything that’s natural and sit in front of a computer and on a motorbike sucking in diesel fumes, so a little plant interaction feels pretty good.
I have a deal with my pembantu Wayan, she cuts the grass and I water it. She was trying to get me to hire her suami (husband ) to do the deluxe job but I thought ‘no you just take care of the cutting and I’ll water’.
While my brother Chris was out here we took a trip up to Lake Bratan and passed 2 other lakes, Buyan and Tamblingan. I remember saying how lucky Bali is having 4 big lakes (the other being Batur) to feed the rice paddies all year round.
My travel today took me too the Bali Garden Hotel in Tuban to check the place out. For families who want no fuss, a decent place to stay on the beach and close to the shopping this is it.
Riding back to Kuta I stopped at a little warung called Bali Rahayu in the little section between Poppies I & II. When I arrive there was no one in sight and on closer inspection I saw a woman sitting behind the desk cutting her toenails with a sharp knife. “Hati hati” (careful) I said. I ordered a nasi campur and a pineapple juice which together cost 11,500rp. It is surprising what some of these little places can churn out and my nasi campur had not a toenail in sight!
Here’s an article from today’s Jakarta Post signalling good news for air travellers in our area.
Sitting here in Internet Outpost its almost 8pm. One of the staff is doing his best to turn the place into a gay nightclub by blasting techno compilations of Rick Astley and other no-names from hell. At least the connection is good right now.
I am picking Ika up from work at 9pm and we’ll see what she’s in the mood for. The Cineplex 21 at Simpang Siur might be the ticket, we’ll see.

G’Day Nick,
Love the website and check it every few days to remind me of the delights that Bali has to offer. I’ll be heading to Bali in December for a week and am already counting down the days. Woould love to shout you a beer and chat if you’re free!
On another note I read today that a 27yo female student from Australia has been arrested at the airport attempting to import a few kilo’s of dope. As is the law she’s facing the death penalty but was hoping you could keep us up to date on proceedings Nick as despite her stupidity I hope she avoids the excecution.
Keep up the good work!
