Today was the day my friend Jay and his wife Debbie flew into Bali.
They live in QLD Australia and are here to check out a new house in the highlands that another Aussie couple are building.
I have known Jay since 1987 and he’s an original for sure. He teaches music as well as playing in a band and hopes to spend part of the year here in Bali getting to appreciate the more natural side of life. I’m jealous!
I scooted down to the airport to catch Jay and Deb off of their 12 noon flight. A friend was driving them up to the mountains and was also there. I did bring my camera but in my excitiment forget to use it. Oh well, I’ll get shots of them both when we rendezvous soon in Seminyak. Hope to interview them both too.
This evening I went to Aina bar in Seminyak with a friend. As many people know Aina is located on Jl. Oberoi close to Jl. Seminyak as is owned by Aina from Austria. They have undergone renovations in the last few months and now have a much larger inside area ( or so it appears ) for people to congregate. Its a hip lillte joint and we played backgammon while sipping arak madu’s. Aina told me one of the regulars is having his birthday party there. Expats and tourists alike, if you are planning a special do for a friend and want something other than Paddy’s or Spy Bar think about Aina’s.
Sunday will be the day of another famous bbq. People are already asking me about it and I haven’t even bought a thing. I’m sure it will rock and the new ‘hotter than the sun bbq’ will be a highlight for me. now I will be able to stand back and chat.
Travellers in Bali email me quick and you might get an invite, this one is not to be missed!

G’Day Nick,
Is this the infamous Jay I’ve heard about so often?
Backgammon!. You’ve won me mate. My favourite and one which I tried to teach Candika but she thought the pips would look good as earrings!. Ho hum.
I’ll look forward to challenging you to a game or two or three or four…
Yeah Barrie, backgammon is fun though I’m not that good.
Jay is a great guy and I’ll be interested to hear his thoughts on Bali and his new place in the hills. I expect to hear that Seminyak ‘isn’t the real Bali’ and ‘I need to get in touch with the locals’.
There is something to those statements but doing waht I do I have ot be down here and can’t just live in the sticks.
Anyway I’ll be sure to report on this latest couple arriving for a new partial future in Bali.
