Saturday is here and I am about to go on a road trip with Mick Turnbull and his group of camp followers.
Global Xtreme was empty this morning and connection was good. I managed to clear my decks before taking off.
Surfer Paul Callahan has told me about a place called Warung Gossip ‘out in the paddy fields somewhere’ that apparently does fanstastic food. I was wondering exactly where it could be and rode around Jalan Petitenget in the direction of Arjuna immigration consultants which took me past many warungs on the way to Batubelig beach and my street. No luck. I asked in my local convienience store and they didn’t know, so I called Paul who was at home in Seminyak off of Double Six and we agreed to meet.
Turns out Warung Gossip is across from Jalan Petitenget on Jalan Pengubengan Kauh in Kerobokan.
As Paul said it was in front of paddy fields and is a very cozy little place. Indonesian food, open air, but aimed at westerners, unlike Nikmat which is a local place that attracts westerners.
Paul said the food served here was the best he’s had in Bali. There were about 20 plates under covers with different dishes. I chose yellow rice with greens, green beans, a delicious beef thing and some curry sauce. It was very well done and totally delicious. Barrie if you don’t love this place I give up.
Whereas Nitmat is more of a hearty ‘slap it together’ place , Gossip has a touch extra class and the dishes are higher quality. Tracey, we’ll go here okay?
For people in Semiyak this place is a must do. I understand a couple of French guys own it and also have experienced in restaurants in Nusa Dua, it shows.
My bill for the food was 15,000rp.
Right now I’m sitting in the Globe internet Cafe just around the corner from Global Xtreme. This place has some good food to as well at the restaurant next door.
We’re heading for Gunung Agung, the largest volcano in 30 minutes and I’ll report on the trip tommorrow. We’ll take the Denpasar bypass to Sanur and then across the south coast through Klungkung to Karangasem. Should take 2-3 hours.

G’Day Mate,
Warung Gossip is an unusual name. I gota check that place out when I get back. Judging by what you wrote, it sounds fantastic!. My kind of place and the price is right.
Have a great trip mate and take care. Whilst you are in Klungkung, check out the Kertha Gosa (Hall of Justice). You won’t be disappointed.
Nick,
I will expect that dinner date next time I am there!!!!!
Sorry we did not catch up more often!!! Let’s just say the 3 weeks, becoming Hindu, getting Married etc, it was kind of a whirlwind trip this time, will have to take more of a holiday trip next time around!!!!!
See you then…..
Depressed. 3 1/2 years since I’ve set foot in Bali, before that I’d been 5 times in 2 1/2 years. I love Bali. The people, the heat, the beach, the waves, the food, the hotel (Kuta Paradiso – what a pool), the haggling, the tourists, the exchange rate, special price, raining price, weekend price, Waterbom Park – the Lazy River, motor bikes, massages on the beach, crazy festivals, good friends, cheap cigarettes, internet cafes, hawkers, kites flying, volcanos, rapids, watersports, Poppies, mud splashed up the back of my legs, always being wet, web cams, crap clothes, bungee, Paddies and of course, The Sari Club. Small-minded people have taken away my favourite Club, but Bali will always be Bali. Stop finding excuses and return to the World’s best relaxing holiday. When I escape from the cold UK (in March 04) I’ll meet you there and buy you an Arak Atak! Mike (32)
