Saturday afternoon I went down to Poppies I in Kuta and chatted with a few people, including Yoche, the bead shop owner, from Timor and Alvin from England, owner of the Secret Garden. Yoche said she has had no business today while Alvin said his place was still hopping. I guess it depends where you go and who you ask.
There were people on Jl. Legian shopping today as well as in the Poppies lane area. This evening Ika and I went out to a place in front of the Jaya Pub in Seminyak. It served Manado (Sulawesi) style food which means nothing to me, its al the same stuff except the names are different. I had a delicious vegetable soup which was spicy and hot, making my nose run like crazy. I followed that up with a grilled snapper and rice, Ika going for nasi campur (mixed rice ) Manado, which contained tofu, chicken and other ingredients. We both liked our food and with a couple of drinks the bill was 95,000rp. Not cheap by Bali standards, but good stuff. I will go back for the soup sometime.
Ika told me that her brother awing was taking refuge at our house because the banjar was on the streets checking ID's. This is part security, part local racket. A local ID will cost an Indonesian 50,000rp for 3 months, very expensive. The banjar make it their business to stop people and demand ID or a fine. Todays show of strength is under the guise of security. Whatever. Let's get the corruption out of Bali, and then I'll believe this crap works.
Ningrum and Awang are looking after Jevon, a situation Ika and I look forward to repeating. Seminyak feels fairly busy this Saturday night. I don't know but I'd say thing are rocking here and we're supposed to be hiding under the mattress according to the world press!

Tv reporters make references to Jl. Oberoi and Laksman as being the next potential target as the restaraunts like Rumors and Tratoria are so vulnerable. Has business returned to normal in Seminyak ?
Hey Nick/Barrie…
The plan is winter time next year we will be heading back to Bali!!!
So hope to catch up in July 06!???
To be honest there are a hundred places in Bali that could be the next target. I’m not telling the though that went through my mind tonight. Once in a while i go into ‘devil mode’ and imagine what i would do if i was a terrorist. These guys are losers. If I was in charge Bali would already be dust.
You can pick any popular area, Kuta Square, dhyana Pura , Oberoi, Padma, Kartika plaza, Hard Rock. They are all potential targets.
Seminyak business is doing okay. Galungan slowed the area down temporarily, and some places ahve closed like Spy Bar, but that was before the bomb.
