Rice fields north of Sukawati Bali

Sukawati was a hive of activity and is a draw for foriegn, domestic and Balinese shoppers. Heading NE from there the urbanisation died out for a while and we were back to the Bali of the oil paintings. On the left side of the road fields had just been harvested, and on the right side, they had been flooded, ready for ploughing. A farmer was using a mechanical plough and it was funny as he would have to skid for a few yards behind it to get it to stop at the end of a row. Man I bet that was hot work today, with the still water and the boiling sun reflecting off of it.

Most rice farmers have a little grass shack in the middle of the field where they can take a quick rest and a drink. I love looking at ricefields but am glad I don’t have to earn my living in one.
