Rice fields in Tabanan Bali

Monday riding around Tabanan is west Bali I was amazed again at the amount of sawah (rice fields). Living in the concrete jungle in Seminyak I don’t see too much green and being surrounded by rolling hills covered with rice terraces is amazing. Watching Balinese locals calmly go about their work, the massive task of maintaining the rice fields and preparing them for planting, is a good thing.

This aspect of Bali won’t hcange too much and the island can always rely on a supply of rice and jobs in the fields. Of course I don’t want a job is a rice field. I’m sure any young Balinese who has worked in a shop in Kuta does not relish going back to help out mum and dad in the sawah.

More on my ride in the hills of Tabanan tommorrow.
