Police shed more light on the Bali 9

by Nick on May 8, 2005

by Nick | May 8th, 2005

After a couple of weeks of stories and excuses from the Bali 9, the group of drug-traffickers now under arrest in Bali, the AFP (Australian Federal Police) has started to piece together the picture. Originally 4 people were caught at the airport in Bali with heroin strapped to them, another, the alleged ringleader Andrew Chan on another flight about to leave. Four other people were also caught in a hotel in Legian.

Originally the mules, or drug carriers, claimed ignorance as to what they were getting into, supporting their claim with stories of death threats from Andrew Chan. Personally I found that to be nonsense right from the start. Imagine telling a judge, Your Honor, I had no choice but to traffic heroin after the 21-year-old kid I work with at the catering company said he would massacre my whole family and me. If someone said that to me I would say, Okay massacre me right now, I am standing in front of you.

As phone and passport records were checked it was discovered another man, Myuran Sukumaran was actually the leader and that some of the older members had made the Bali-run before. This was no trick, or intimidation scheme, it was a tried and tested operation.

Australian police have arrested other syndicate members in Australia and the full story is beginning to emerge.

I think that any defense the Bali 9 had has vanished.

I can see you have very little experience in Asia or with Asians. They really *would* kill your family. The Chinese mafia did not get it’s reputation from Jackie Chan movies.

Listen Chan buddy there are gangsters all over the world not just China mate. Let me tell you something else bud, if i was threatend by someone to put my life at stake by bringing back drugs for them or they would shoot my family well the answr would still be “NO”. Nick is right in what he has stated because when death htreats are issued you have usually been involved in the narcotics business for a while and have become too involved. You dont just walk into work, sit down to have a tea break and a chat with a workmate and before you have finished your cuppa find your whole family is going to be wiped out unless you bring back 3 kilos of the finest smack(heroin). If you find that this does happen to you and you just say “Yes Chan no problem my good friend are you sure you only want 3 kilos why not ten ” then you deserve to be strung up. So Chan all i am trying to say is get real buddy because there are a bloddy lot of Chans in Britain never mind China for me to start running scared. Uhh it annoys me !!!

To all you racist thugs, drug dealers, drug users. Rot in hell. Bali one or nine. They probably smoked too much of the stuff themselves and forgot where they were. They probably thought that they were down under where you get a slap on the wrist if you are a junky, or a drug peddlar. You know. Maggot shit. That is why the capital cities down under are infested with crime and wake up and smell the coffee. You have to look over your shoulder all the time.

This countries dilly dally aproach to criminals and crime has led to it’s slow destruction. There is no fear by criminals.

All you smoking Potheads suppoting this corby are just supporting her because you love your Ganja Potheads.

Where is the outrage when an 80 year old woman got raped, or a 65 year old woman had her shoulder dislocated, let alone the shock after one of these junky fiends tries to snatch her bag.

All we hear is the police saying it was a cowardly act. They will plead they did not know what they were doing, and the clever country will believe it. They will get one month jail and then back out to rob or maim someone else.

Execute the scum.

The Bali 9 look guilty to me. Forget the bullshit death threats and window dressing.I hope that it’s not only the 4 mules actually carrying the drugs who face the firing squad.Hell
Mark Spark would understand if I’m the type who says “If I’m facing the firing squad” then I want Andrew Chan and the martial arts guru standing right beside me on the day. If need be I would let one of the mules live if that’s what it took too get Chan and his mates a date with the firing squad.
A favorite old western movie of mine has,
“first of all boy’s were gonna give ya a fair trial then were gonna hang ya”

Exactly…the mules would have already been in the drug ring to begin with.. if they were threatoned .. then its their own fault for being in the drug ring in the first place, its pathetic.. they deserve the firing squad.. well infact they all do. If they were unaware of the death penalty for trafficking drugs into/out of bali then thats their ignorance (which im sure they knew of). The things people do for money huh…. is it really worth your life?

I wish they had footage of them being arrested…I would have loved to see that female(is she gay?) member of the Bali 9 popped.

These kids had heroine taped to their bodies. So here’s the latest:
The will spend 10 years in prison awaiting death sentence. (Sounds like fun ey? Bucket of water a day, rice with bugs in it and God knows what else..like sex or something of that nature. Oh but at least they can place tennis. The Prison has a tennis court.)

In 10 years or so when they are sentenced, hoods will be placed on their heads while they’re taken to the woods. They will be set to run free while the police shoot them down–and they never die on the 1st shot.

You better know the juice if you’re gonna do the squeeze.

PS–Can I send them gifts? I want to send the 17 yr old a magazine issue of National Geographic.

I agree, and I am sick of hearing about their poor circumstances… Who in their right mind thinks anyone is going to give them a free holiday.. no strings attached ? Seriously, These idiots need to be made an example of, and then maybe it might make a few people actually think, BEFORE they do something stupid… not after the fact.It seems to me that all the mules have done is prolong their life a little and made their last few months really miserable inside a bali prison… maybe they should have said No to their “Friends” and taken the bullet before they got caught.I am a firm believer in “Dont do the crime, if you cant do the time” so Bring on the death penalty for anyone who has anything to do with importing Drugs, Rape, Murder,or Child Molestation, AND Keep Politics out of it. Law is Law and should not be able to be changed by anyone to suit individual circumstances.

I’m so delighted to hear they’re going to shoot Chan. Shame they won’t shoot the rest. I know what it’s like to wake up in the morning to have a drug crazed merciless animal standing over me while asleep. To wake up to it is nothing short of heart-attack material. I’ve never been right since. I’ve become a total panic merchant at the first sight of someone looking suspicious. So is that MY fault. I hold Chan and others like him totally responsible for my dilema. If I can’t live the rest of my life normally now, then why should any of the Bali 9. At least now, I’m not suffering a life sentence alone. And if they catch the ringleaders, then I’ll be that much more relieved. Round them all (heroin users) up and shoot ‘em. What on earth can they offer our society except misery and fear.

Perhaps they are innocent..if they read like you spell then maybe they didn’t think they were doing anything wrong in trying to traffick drugs into our country so people could potentially die. I’m thinking that their story of not knowing what they were getting into is total crap. No self respecting drug lord would risk the booty with idiots carrying it taped to their bodies who were not prepared to act as normal as possible under the circumstances. They knew why they were going to Bali and what the risks were.
Why would the hobnobs want people who were as we have been told, unwilling as these cretins were to do the job properly? If it were me I would want people doing the dirty work who were willing and able to do it…not with the so called use of threats against the families. They are so brain dead they can’t even come up with decent lies…no wonder they were convicted…

The Bali 9 is a joke. I don’t mean to be so cruel, but there is the saying,”You do the crime and pay the time”. I just hope that they have learnt their lesson and to carry on.Life goes on and so will they.
I think of their poor family;the pain, anguish and suffering they have each day for the rest of their lives.Imagine the parents;they are so loving and patient. If that was my child, I’d always love and support them as best I could.I just hope they will learn to forgive themselves and hope that light at the end of the tunnel will still shine for them.
Thanks.

I don’t believe that the youngest of the bali 9 should be jailed for life. Too young and naive, he isn’t fully understanding of the world and the consequences of his actions. The other thing is they weren’t taking drugs into Bali, it should have been Australia’s concern because that is where they were being taken to. The police understand the harsh rules for drugs, they should never have let them get caught in Bali. I strongly believe they should be sent back to Australia. I feel really terrible for the mules, especially the youngest of them. I am not feeling sorry for the eldest who had made the runs before, but I oppose the death penalty, very barbaric.

You are entitled to your own opinion and have the right to go or not go where you want.

Attaching emotional thoughts to real life events might not be the best thing. I mean I’d like to see Schapelle Corby work something out and be free in the few years. Unfortunately she did do things that put her in the situation she is in.

Blaming Qantas, AFP, Rolf Harris, Indonesia etc. won’t change that.

Interesting comments. If, as has been shown recently, you have the same grasp of geography as most Americans it is questionable as to wether you would know where Indonesia is.Lumping Indonesia and Indonesian Products and Qantas together seems strange. You may not be aware that US manufacturers are one of the biggest users of Asian Sweat Shops, so be careful you may be sitting on, wearing, eating off or drinking out of something made in Indonesia (Shock Horror)
God Bless America, the Free World and Schapelle Corby, strange that you would bless a Convicted Drug Smuggler in conjunction with America and the Free World
Maybe, if your not happy with the Indonesian Democratic System, you should invade them and show them the good old US way of doing things, like in Iran (I hear Indonesia has some great Oil Reserves)

With regards the Younger of the Bali 9,naive is not a word that I think fits him. You may not have seen his Criminal record.
As to your comment about where the drugs were going or coming from, well that is Naive with a capital N. So if I understand you if the Australian Police detect a Drug Smuggler at an Australian Airport with Drugs strapped to their body, as long as they are exporting the drugs and not importing the drugs they should turn a blind eye and say not our problem it is the problem of the country where they are taking them. Also you seem to imply that you feel sorry for the first timers but not the ones that have made the runs before. So if your doing it for the first time that is OK and we should feel sympathy, but if you have done it more than once we should feel no sympathy. Strange way of looking at things.

Yeah, being in jail is not a good way to start your life in a foreign country, where you cant speak the language.Thats really tough.
As for having sex, that would really be so frustrating and yet really annoying you can’t share your love with someone, even its just a hug or I love you. There is always magazines, like FHM to keep your spirits up and always good for a laugh. Ned Kelly said “such is life” but then he didn’t get hung for smuggling drugs. He was a proud man and a dinkum Aussie. The Bali 9 minus the 2 ratbags can just hope someday justice will prevail. Good luck to them.

Hey,whats all the fuss about? haven’t these guys been thru enough? Soon all the hype will die down and everyone can get on with their lives. I’m not saying we’ll forget about them, but lets be realistic.
I’m sure the Bali 9 needs support, but we have to support ourselves too. Life can be really cruel at times and sometimes you can get so lucky and everything works out well for you.
You will always know there is someone out there for you,who is really special, caring and loving. I haven’t found that person yet and when I do,I’ll be as loving and caring and supportive in any way.
So to the Bali 9 just live each day and don’t fret about the next. Perhaps if they could read FHM,that would cheer them up!! the babes are hot and looking at them all day would make things alittle brighter,if not happier!!

The Bali 9 is a sad reminder about the drug world of today. They 9(except the 2 ringleaders)were full of hopes and dreams and a great future ahead of them. Such a waste of a young life.
I can’t imagine sitting in a jail cell in a foreign country with crappy food, noone to talk to and noone to snuggle up to when you’re depressed and lonely.
If that was me, I’d go crazy each day and wish I didn’t do such a stupid thing for the sake of my family. I mean, I’d do anything for my loved ones, but I couldn’t put them through that S..T.
I am lucky I live in a great country,I have a wonderful family and stability with food, money and a roof over my head.
I’m not religious, but I will pray for those young people and I hope when they (or if they)get out, that they will remember to go back living and enjoying their life the way it used to be for them.

i’m friends with 2 of the bali 9 and i’m sick of hearing that they deserve to die. i understand that what they did wasn’t right and they should be locked up for it but they shouldn’t die for it. you’re all talking like they knew about the drugs but how the hell do you know that?????? you’re all just believing the media. you have absoultly no idea. so until you know the REAL facts shut up. if someone was threating to kill my family i would do anything to stop them doing that. your precious afp screwed them over. your police system is letting these young people die. how is that fair. they arent even trying to get them home. the jail that they are in is hell. that’s punishment enough. so please spare a thought for the bali 9, their family and their friends before you decied to write that they deserve to die. once you learn the real facts of what happened then you’ll understand that what is happening is a complete disgrace. it makes me sad to hear people from this country saying they should die. they are all young and no-one should die like that.

The best thing about these countries that can produce these dirty, filthy, horrible drugs is their law system…. I’ve seen too many people die and hurt people who take these drugs and then the drug lords who live the life of riley on the money they make its just not right!!! Anybody no matter who they are young, old, black, white even pink all deserve death by the choices they make by dealing with drugs…. They deserve to rot in hell for their actions from the misery they’ve put on their families and society and i’m sure alot of people think like me.

I don’t think they deserve to die. But I do think they went into Indonesia to bring drugs back here for whatever reason. They would all have to have been living under a rock not to know that the death penalty exists for such crimes in that country. Yes it is sad that their fate seems to be have been decided. But on the other side I don’t want to support any criminal, who commits a crime overseas, with my tax dollars. I have done nothing wrong and that is my right to have my say and not wanna support them in the prison system in Australia. They gave their rights away…too bad so sad…..
