Here are some pictures from Saturday in Ubud.

A card game on the street.

A lady performing the evening ceremony at a restaurant.

A young lady we saw outside our guest house.

Sean’s hat in the monkey forest.

This one is for all the ladies at Travelers Tales.

We’re waiting to meet Gerry, owner of BaliEats.com. He’s picking us up in 5 minutes.

More photos to follow.

Ubud is a quiter place than Kuta with a ton of arts, crafts and activities like massage, batik painting etc.

There are some good restaurants too. Sean and I went to a Thai place and had our own bamboo platform on stills with a bamboo roof…its was cool! My meal ran us about $1.50.

Don’t know what game those guys were playing, but they didn’t notice us at all.

Can you have Sean bring me home the large totem with the large penis. It would look lovely on my front porch. alex could take it to school for show and tell with her friends! Oh, and I want that first house you saw on Friday - the one with the great staircase. Maybe they will rent it to me for 2 weeks next year when we come to visit. Thanks for the posts, and thanks for thinking of us stuck in our offices over here in the States. love S

Funny thing about the monkey statue was its location on the counter of a restaurant. When we sat downwe noticed about 30 Balinese men in traditional outfits sitting on the floor and having a meeting. We thought the monkey was hilarious. I know in the Hindu religion Hanuman is the name of the monkey and the restaurant was on Jalan Hanuman I think.

We are hearing from a housing guy today about a house we made an offer on. His price was high, our offer super low so today at 3pm we’ll get his next offer.

Heh I didn’t think that westerners could buy property in Bali, that is what I read, if I am wrong I am on my way over to buy the 5 acre parcel at the south end of the harbor at Padang Bai! It is on a cliff with a beautiful white beach on the right and the harbor view on the left. Someone already put a paved road up to the property. I thought that you had to make a good friend, buy it for them and then just use it. Can’t remember what web site, but it was some official type of site. Maybe you are leasing or renting or are you really going to buy?

Hi Cathleen,
I don’t know about the legalities of buying or long-leasing land in Bali, but I have been told by some good Australian friends who are in that type of business in Bali that it is most important to have a good notary. They recommend Made Puryatma home ph [0361]422948 office ph [0361]226782 fax [0361]232620.
He is Balinese and speaks good English and I am told he is well-informed, efficient and absolutely honest.
Best Wishes Rex
