merapi051606.jpgGoogle Earth has a photo of Mt. Merapi erupting in Central Java. Google Earth allows you to scan the world, finding even your own neighborhood and view still photos taken from satellites. When the cone finally blows we’ll see some fireworks. Must be amazing to be in the area at night time, you’d really see the lava.

The local watchman of the mountain, who was appointed by the local king, is staying put, despite government warnings. Anyone flying into Yogyakarta, now has another thing to look forward to. Not only does Yogya have the most amazing view, to the north, when flying in from Bali (many volcanoes), it also has the worlds most bumpy runway, making landing there a exciting experience, rather like taking a ride a the fair.

My parents are on the 3rd day of their 10 day vacation to Jakarta/Bali/Kuala Lumpur. Today they drove from Jakarta to Merapi to see the active volcano from as close as they possibly can. I am about to call them as they just reached Jakarta back 15 min ago.
