Nyepi Day approaching in Bali

Nyepi Day, the ‘Day of Silence is fast approaching. Nyepi occurs on Thursday March 30th and Balinese people are getting ready for the day. Today in a convenience store I chatted to the staff who were all wearing kebayas and sarongs. Most will be going back to their villages, whether it be Denpasar, Singaraja or Amed. I joked with one young lady that I knew she would be eating behind closed doors when she knew no one was watching. She laughed and nodded.

Nyepi for me will mean staying at home. I always dream up big plans but sometimes have to scale them back as part of being a dad and a husband. In a perfect world I’d get on a plane and spend a few day exploring Sumba or some other more remote part of Indonesia.

Tomorrow night you will be able to see the ogah ogah’s in Seminyak at the junction of Jl. Dhyana Pura, Denpasar in Puputan Square and in Kuta at Bemo Corner. Whatever you do you will have to be inside by 12 midnight.
