Night out with Stewart, Christine and Josh in Seminyak Bali

I bumped into Josh Grillo at Internet Outpost yesterday around 5pm and he told what a great time he was having riding around the Bukit ( bottom chunk of Bali that sticks out ) on his motorbike.

We chatted and I invited him to the house for a few beers and a meeting with Stewart and Christine from Australia. Josh worked in tv in the US and had a situation where he and 3 others ( 2 girls, 1 guy ) would drive around the country, Road Rules style and cover the PGA Tour. He did that for a year and said it was a hell of a time but exhausting.

We polished off a few Bintangs and were joined my Stewart and Christine who were having clothes made by a tailor, great deals over here.

Stewart brought drinks with him and immediately set us all up with a black russian. These went down fairly easily and were followed by another. I could tell by the volume of te conversation that the drinks were working. Around 9pm we got up to walk down Jalan Oberoi to the Mykonos restaurant. We sat outside and enjoyed the Greek flavours. I ordered some pita, dolmas and a grilled snapper.

Jalan Oberoi is loaded with restaurants and catching a cab is never a problem. We zoomed off to the Santa Fe bar on Jalan Drupadi. This place was very busy and Josh wasted no time in slidding up to a pretty young lady seated at the bar. Looking around at the assortment of people including a neanderthal man with no shirt, a mute lady from Jakarta dressed in black and tourists from all over, Stewart exclaimed “Nick this place is a cesspool……….I love it!”

Chrisitine got friendly with one lady from Java and they both went dancing in front of the band. Christine and Stewart were educating me on dance moves for those who can’t. This is more like a comedy routine and moves included the Egg Beater ( hold in front with one hand and rotate ith the other, whisk style ), the Shopping Cart ( reaching out lightly to the side and plucking at an imaginary item before plopping it into your cart, repeat other side ), the Sprinkler ( hold hand up in front of you, palm facing in and rotate yourself in a circle as if following this sprinkler like object ) , the chain saw ( hold with one hand and try to start with the other. I offered a move I learned from Sean and Chris, lets call it Pushing the Roof ( palms raised overhead facing the ceiling, try to push the roof up and down).

We looked like a bunch of fools but I had a great time.

Josh was getting on well with his new friend and the rest of us decided to move on down to Spy Bar. It was packed with the usual dance type music. Didn’t see anyone I know, although that’s not hard for me at night. During the proceedings the powerwent off for a few minutes. Bartenders grabbed flash lights and cheers went up when the power came back on. There were plenty of Euros in here enjoying there holiday as well as finely dressed ladies from Indonesia. Josh and his friend joined us.

A couple of doors down we had a drink at Liquid, another trendy spot and it just didn’t seem the same without Mick Turnball ( he’s in Oz for 3 weeks ) , they actually had some vodka left.

This place was almost all Europeans and Aussies, the locals don’t seem to hang out here that much.

We said goodbye to Josh and got a taxi back to the house where Stewart grabbed the last of his booze. It was a blast hanging out with everyone last night and I hope to get all the inside info on Josh’s finale.

The magic line as I attempted to teach Nick and Co. is “Saya Mimpi Kamu”. This means “I dream of you”. Mind you Josh’s date was already glassy eyed and well and truely hooked before he said “Saya Mimpi Saya” which means “I dream of me”. I don’t think that little gaff hurt his form though. C’mon Josh, dish the dirt on this lovely for us!

Cheers
Stuart and Chris.

P.S. Arrrived back in Oz safe and sound! Thanks again Nick.

Tracey,

Actually Pedro is right!. SORRY but it is ‘besok malam’. Mind you, diferent lecturers tell you to express it their way and it really depends on what island they are from.

I have always said ‘besok malam’. For instance, I depart for Bali on Sunday, so I would say ’saya akan berangkat untuk Bali besok minggu’.

I think the Indonesians are just grateful that we learn their language!.

Hope you have a great flight Barrie,

I agree Barrie,a little respect for
Indonesian language and culture goes
