Nias memorial goes ahead in Indonesia

A memorail service in honor of 9 Australian servicemen killed in a helicopter crash last year will go ahead on the Indonesian island of Nias.

The crash happened while Australian forces were heping the victims of an earthquake. The Australian government recently gave travel warnings for Indonesia suggesting April 2nd could be a day of fresh terror attacks.

I’ve been to Nias and remember it being a largely undeveloped place, at least on th south coast. Coconut plantations and surfing were the 2 obvious industries and the loca strain of malaria has a bad reputation.

Here in Seminyak everything is quiet and hopefully there will not be any unwelcome events.
