Bali’s airport Ngurah Rai, which is located in Tuban, just south of Kuta, does not come up to scratch on security.
That is the opinion of experts from the US Transport Security Administration. The US has very strict airport security and sees Ngurah Rai not coming up to par with the standards set out by the International Civil Aviation Organization.
Whenever I enter the airport I have to immdediately pass all bag through an x-ray machine. Before boarding a plane I also have to repeat this and walk through a metal detector. Having travelled back and forth to the US from Bali, visiting a number of airports in Asia I’d say the security seems similar across the board, plenty of metal detectors, X-ray, patdowns, place your metal items in the tray etc. The US definitely goes a bit further by thoroughly searching anything that gives a beep, shoes off, belt off, even checking laptops for trace explosives with a special device.
Ngurah Rai seems okay to me, but then I’m not an expert.

Tend to agree with you there —Bali security is on a par with Perth. We go through the exact same -s*** different venue.
really think about it in other airports you actually enter the building prior to X.Ray scanning ect whereas in Bali you get X-Rayed and scanned at the entrance.
As for USa I haveent been there for years –but don’t they always overdo!

Forgot to mention a very important point—The bombs that have wrecked bali ,twice, were manufactured within Indonesia —-the airport security or lack of it therein would not have mattered a Damn.

In that case it doesn’t matter; but i think the US would be a little more concerned about bombs built in Indonesia, leaving the country trough Ngurah Rai towards USA…
Denpasar airport is terrible. I can remember putting my bags through the x-ray thing when the machine wasn’t even on. It is better since the bombings in Bali. I did go between 9/11 and the Bali bombings, and security was as lax as ever.
