Angie from Australia sms'd me this evening and said the word on the street is stay clear of Jl. Oberoi re more bombings.

I can not confirm this to be reliable news, you know how things get passed around, but that's what I heard.

This is taken from the CNN:

Indonesia must ban JI, says expert

Gunaratna said JI could still recruit and do propaganda work in Indonesia, where it was not against the law to be a member of the organization.

I will arrive on sat the 8th, my wife feels the danger is no different/ more dangerous than her travelling on the Sydney city underground rail.
Car’nt wait to see my old mate (Rocky)Nyomen Reslan his wife Camilla and all the kids. I will bring sum photo’s of our Hindu temple in Helensburgh.
It is my turn to lift the Balinese spirits
as they have done for past 30 years of my life.

Dan,

I think your wife is being quite positive about which is great to hear.

But, come on! Comparing it to Sydney’s trains is like apples and oranges.

Firstly Sydney is yet to experience a bomb attack on the trains.
Secondly Sydney is not 85% muslim, like Bali is (majority muslims anyway)
Sydneys authorities are more active in police numbers, equipment, warnings, technology to detect bombs being brought into the country….etc

The odds of getting blown up in Sydney by JI is low. I mean where would they target in Sydney. Were all Australians here, who would the single out.
Were as in Bali …….ok take your pick of bars where the aussies are.

The local bars cannot afford to have security posted outside their business’s.

And most bars in the Kuta area are like a matter of metres from any given road. It takes only seconds for a bomb to be parked out front and detonated.

This is the 4th such attack in 3-4 years, I don’t like those odds.

But I do remain optimistic that given a few years, it will return to its former glory, ridding themselfs of those JI bombers and alike.
