Saturday here in Bali was kind of overcast and that is okay with because I made the most of my new home internet connection.
I got a phone call this morning, it was from Barrie who has just returned to Bali with Candika after a 20 hour delay in Perth, his home town.
Ika and I will be meeting Barrie and Candika at a little warung on Poppies II later called Jegeg Bulan. I am excited to see him especially as the last time were together he had broken his foot during our trip to Trunyan, the Bali Aga Village inside the Gunung Batur crater.
The other night Ika and I were talking about geography and I pulled up the CIA fact-file (because that is where I work you know!) and checked out the file on Indonesia. Very interesting to see the fact and figures laid out and particularly interesting assessment of the economy. Pretty much a macro version of my micro experiences.
Ika and I are excited because my friend Sean is coming out from Oregon this week and will stay for around 10 days. I old him I have many new places to take him in the eating-out category. I started looking around a bit more closely and its fantastic all the new places that are appearing on the scene. Among there are Wave, a restaurant / bar located right next to the beach at the bottom of Pantai Kuta. This place looks squish and I will get him over there at some stage. This place is aimed at tourists and has an awesome location.
If you are staying in Kuta check out the Wave with the CoffeeBar, Club and Sailfin restaurant.

Another new place that opened recently is Venue @ The Moon located on Jl. Petitenget in Kerobokan. For those who have been to Bali before its the same area as The Living Room and La Lucciola. This place is Spy Bar type joint from the look I got riding past. I can see how the expat scene in the Umalas, Kerobokan area is developing. Expats who have tried the place seem to like it.

The popular sports bar has opened a new venue in the Padma area. The place is on the second floor at the junction of Padma Utara and is great. I am heading there after writing this article!

This place has been around for several months and locals like it. I have not had the chance to eat there myself but I have heard this is a cool spot. Located right next to the Sari Club bomb site at Jl. Legian and Poppies II. Good place for sundown drinks.

Alternative, gay, go-go boys, drag show, fashion show etc in a glitzy atmosphere. Used to be Club Inc. and I could never figure out why there were always benchongs there, now I know…its gay club.
Location is on Jl. Legian just north of the junction with Jl. Double Six. Handy for alternives / guys who are warming up for Double Six / Q Bar.

Stop Press:
Just have dinner with Barrie & Candika. Candika bought Ika 2 boxes of durian flavoured cakes. Barrie got me a book called Fragrant Rice by Janet De Neefe, owner of Casa Luna and the person behind the Ubud writers festival.
Am now heading to Stadium Padma for some Premiership action!
Nice afternoon downpour today.
