When I talk to people about history and world events they seems either not to know much of the picture or have a very distorted version. Of course we in the west also get bombarded with our own governments propaganda, but westerners seem more media hungry and have the luxury of greater access to media, or at least they did before the internet brought worldwide media to anyone with an internet connection.
I was talking with Ika the other day and she told me when she was younger her hero was Saddam Hussein. I asked why and she told me that a teacher of hers had told the class Saddam Hussein was a hero because unlike other leaders, he always led from the front and won many great battles. When I told her this was total BS, she said "how do you know?" I said all the newspapers and books say otherwise. She said, "how do you know they are not lying?" I guess you can't convince some people and it's hard to take, especially for us westerners, when someone refutes something you hold as the truth.
