Mixed marriage can be a legal minefield in Indonesia

Maybe it is time that the local ex pats get together and form their own Banjar and make productive suggestions. It seems the Indonesian Authorities are just incapable of making rational decisions. The rules re kids of Indonesians who marry westerners are in breach of basic human rights for sure. Because the system in Indonesia is so nepotistic you get idiots in positions of power more worried about their power base than making sound decisions for the country.

Believe me, I got this information from a local indonesian newspaper.

Egypt has had similar law for some time now. The rational behind it is to protect the local women from abuses by their foreign husbands. What a crock! Of all the countries in the world that indonesia needs to emulate, why does it have to be Egypt? Another inept, corrupt and hopelessly poor islamic state.

if you didnt rely on the Jakarta Post as your gospel of truth you will find that no such deposit is required and that egypt is treats foreign spouse a lot better than Indonesia - 3 year visa for foreign spouse.

Anyway either go back to school and at least finish grade 8 before responding to more blogs. That way others will not think of you as a complete retard or an idiot.

I’m an Indonesian woman and has tons of Indonesian girlfriends all over the place. I’m married with an American and have 2 wonderful young children.

This is what my friends and I agreed, Indonesia govt is desperate in finance and never-paid-loans-until-judgement-day looking for other resources by.. selling their women!!!!

Reading your experiences and reading about the Indonesian visa system it seems difficult for a non Indonesian guy to marry an Indonesian woman and live in Indonesia and make a living there, isn’t it? Apparently it’s not impossible though. I’d like to find out how it is possible for a non-indo guy to marry an Indonesian and live in indo with her. What visa’s does the guy need, is it possible to stay the whole year round? Are there restrictions for doing work? How is it possible (regarding to possible restrictions by visa) to make a living there?

Before we were married I converted to Islam, the best thing that could have happened to me.A majority of Indonesians thought America was a land of only white people!!!! Can you believe that ? I live in Bali and have a wife from Kalimantan,or should I say she has bule husband?Bali is sweet but yes there are differences in cultures and out looks,get over it and accept each other for what and who we are.Remember Indo is a scattered group of islands,the people of which vary greatly……….from my experiences all I can note is that in time the government needs to mature and not be so sensitive
