Michelle Leslie goes on trial in Denpasar Bali

by Nick on October 28, 2005

by Nick | October 28th, 2005

Australian model Michelle Leslie went on trial today in Denpasar. Michelle 24, is accused of possession of a couple of scoobie snacks and could face a 15 year jail sentence in found guilty. That is a ludicrous law to me, especially when the spiritual head of JI (terrorist organization Jemaah Islamiyah) gets around 3 years for his part in Bali Bombing I, AND received a remission because it's Ramadan. Have to say what is the freaking point if you are going to give him remission everytime Christmas rolls around?’

I will say one thing, Michelle seems to be conducting herself with a great degree of control and it is refreshing after the Corby Show, several months ago. My commenting on this case will all be from long range because I am leaving for the US shortly and will be out of the picture. If Michelle can argue she is a serious drug user her sentence could be an easy 3 months, a sentence most people will be happy with.

While I have little symphathy for people caught using drugs, there should be equality in sentencing.I believe the world accepts you do the crime , you do the time but the World also takes notice when justice is delivered unequally.Bali depends on Tourism and needs to be more active in ensuring that all people who visit this great Island Paradise are treated fairly with Justice for All not Punishment fir Some.

Kevin,

I never knew that you are capable of showing compassion. Or is it because Leslie is a good looking gal?

Anyway, I am with you in this bro’. I think she is too cute to stay in that hellhole.

Is she married? I am interested. Can anyone tell me how to contact her? She is good looking enough for me.

This country is screwed and run by a bunch of racist corrupt muslims sitting in Jakarta. They are sending a message to foreigners and the people of Bali about how they really feel about protecting the Balinese and tourists from terrorism.

“If your a cold blooded murderer, incite cold blooded murder, are an accessory to cold blooded murder but you do this in the name of islam and murder foreigners and balinese – dont worry we will make sure you dont spend to much time in the slammer”

I guess if you are a foreigner however…….

The writing is on the wall … The muslim government in Jakarta doesnt give a sh*t about its minorities or tourists and want to create a favourable environment for terrorists, vigilantes and extremists to operate.

Happy Ramadan everybody.

Indonesia is a predominantly Muslim country. Bali is a predominantly Hindu province. Thats it like it or not as foreigners we knew this when we made a decision to move here.We cannot change the numbers but as guest’s of Indonesia we should remember we are obliged to live by our host’s rules no matter how much we disagree with the country’s politics or idealology or else MOVE OUT. But to where guys Thailand,Vietnam,Malayasia I dont think so because with all it’s faults Bali is still the best place for this foreigner to live… and now the ocean at Legian is calling me.

I really hope that Michelle gets only the 3 month sentance but I think that her case has been a circus aswell. (and for the small amount of tablets it is very over the top).. eg the change in the stories, the muslim convert, bribes being paid, she is addicted then she isn’t but is addicted to another drug, her friend put it in her bag then she said she brought it at kuta beach and now it is back to her friend put it in her bag.. Why is it that you are all so ready to put down Corby when it was Corby who didn’t get a fair trial is could be a very innocent victim here…. Remember it wasn’t Corby who made the circus but it was the Media!!!! When have you ever heard Corby say anything but I am innocent???

Dear Nick

you are ver politically uniformed. Abu Bakir Bashir is the accused spiritual head of JI, which literally means in arabic Islamic Community. So therefore he is a priest in Christian terms.

let me give u a leason in indonesian policitcs. Bashir is in the indonesian maffia and you all know how hard it is to prosecute maffia members. So therefore it occured to the police that why dont we prosecute him for the bombings which everyone is sensative about.

In referance to your comment on JI being a terroist group…you have no idea. if they were that means 230 million people are in this terrorist group.

once again congrads for being politicially incorrect and informed.

Are you saying that all 230 millions indonesians are members of JI? How ridiculous.

Abu Bakir was just being a true Muslim following the law of Quran: Fight for Allah, hunt and kill all infidels.

guess what Tony…what is ridiculous iid your knowledge of indonesian politics. JI literally means Islamic community in arabic.

Indonesia is the largest Islamic nation in the world which has a population of approx 250 million and 230 million are muslims. therefore making them part of the islamic ‘community’.

i spoke to balinese people on the beach and also police officers. from what i gathered i saw that they all said Bakir was in the maffia and that is how the government prosecuted him.

thank you

I read somewhere that Michelle was travelling in a car with the son of a very important member of Indonesian Govt, and who also had gear in his pockets.
One law for the rich and the written one for the rest of us.. just like the rest of the western world eh.

I’l tell you one thing… Indonesians aren’t over in arab countries murdering the inhabitants.
That puts Indonesia and like minded countries High high up way over the country I live in. Oz that is.
Cheers Neil

michelle you really should not be comming home this weekend. How could you be so very stupid when chapelle is trying so hard to get home.
I personally hoped you were kept in Bali on drug charges, (what idot would take the drug made in such filthy conditions). We no that money pathed your way out of jail it was nothing to do with your lack of guilt it just adds to your guilt. Personally I don’t need to hear your story, not interested in a silly girls who can’t handle socity without drugs. SHAME!

Michelle Lesley is laughing, she’ll be back home soon and with just a little bit of business savvy she’ll go from be just another maniken to being set up for life.

Wouldn’t surprise me if some of the Indonesians are getting a cut, not that i’m into conspiracy theories or anything.

Tony looks are in the eye of the beholder, Schapple looks like a saint compared to Michelle and remember Schapple didn’t have drugs in her system at the time of arrested. Tony not good bringing a girls sex life into the argument. So she enjoys Jappanesse. I bet Michelle likes anyone with a big wallet.

Most people can understand how those drugs got into schapple’s bag. The bag wasn’t finger printed, which it should have been considering the length of jail term, or any jail for that matter. If her family is poor, well some are. I have found in the past that the rich are usually the most ignorant and rude. it’s not and excuse to ruin a life.
The weekend schapelle was arrested there was an all out terror alert for Bali, maybe schapelle was used to stop other young surfers from visiting Indo.

Suzette,

If schapelle were to get caught with that much drugs entering Australia, I am sure you would never have given her the benifits of the doubt you are giving her now.

Other people have mentioned that they have had drugs put in their luggage, that is why people now seem to be wrapping their bags in plastic.
I’ll concede that schappelle will probably stay in Indo.
But the damage to tourism is bad. People say they will go back to Bali because the people need our $s and they are a beauitful race. Hindu’s not filthy muslims, and it is a real shame the world has come to think that way.
God bless us

They did not have a record of the weight of her luggage, it would seem Tony you have a personal vendita against the Corby family.
Don’t you think that too many young australians have died in Bali already. When do you think is a good time to stop.
As for the remark (slut) which is heard over and over again from some elements, is wearing mighty thin.

Tony you silly silly person, in the bag were flippers, arm rope and no doubt a towel. Not just a board. No she isn’t dead yet, but 20 years in a hole with illness around it don’t look good.
Whats your problem Tony an ozzie girl get the better of you.

Suzette,

I think Tony has a stronger argument here. Let’s face it: Corby is guilty.

When the only witness the Corby’s defense team could bring in to corraborate her story was a convicted rapist from ozzie jail, I wondered why people like you would believe her.

Suzette, don’t let an ozzie girl like Corby get the better of you.

I have just weighed flippers board and arm rope and I can tell you that you have it wrong. Doesn’t matter, at the end of the day no one from my family will ever be going to such a filthy country again, with one law for the rich and another for the poor.
Corby is innocent, I know that in my heart. Where as leslie had drugs in her system. Poor litle rich girl can’t party without drugs. She won’t look so pretty in 10 years time.

Tony, why so angry ha? I really dont think going on about these girls looks and calling Schappelle a bar slut is really necessary, the girl is doing time in a filthy jail and has lost 20 years of her life (deserving is debatable) You go on about having class, from your comments Tony, class is what you seem to be lacking.
