Michael Blanc: 6 years in a Bali jail

Schapelle Corby is in prison in Kerobokan Bali. Earlier in the year I got to meet her for about 2 minutes and also interview a prisoner from Scotland. The lady who got m into the jail was the mother of a French prisoner called Michael Blanc.

Today is the 6 year anniversary of his arrest. Time flies when you’re in jail…not! Michael Blanc was arrested with 4kg of marijuana in his scuba diving tank. He claims it was not his, but was given a life sentence. His mother moved out from France to be close to him and visits everyday. He is in jail with people who got 10 years for murder, which makes the whole thing seem ridiculous.

Schapelle Corby seems to be in a similar boat, with the extra factor that the Australian government might arrange a prisoner transfer sometime in the future. Sad to see a young man unable to live his life. If you are visiting Kerobokan jail and don’t get to see any of the more famous prisoners like Schapelle, ask to see Michael, I’m sure he will appreciate the chance to speak to you.
