Meeting ScottCol in Kuta Bali

scotty090205.jpgOne of the best things about Baliblog is I get to meet all kinds of cool people and today and I met a familiar name on the blog. ScottyCol aka Colin from Perth Australia has been in Bali for almost a month and has been exploring different parts of the island. Colin is originally from a small town east of Glasgow Scotland and has retained his charming accent. He moved to Australia many years ago and is quite familiar with Bali. We are both backpack travellers and shared stories. Colin told me in the mid 70's he traveled across Indonesia and Asia all the way to Scotland. Those were the days when Afghanistan and Persia were all good and the hippies really pioneered what companies like LP now sell guidebooks to.

We went to Warung Jegeg Bulan on Poppies II and downed many beers. I had a great time and will meet up with him tomorrow. He was nice enough to bring me a bottle of wine from the vineyard he used to work at! The pluses of being a blogger.

Nick,

I assume that you are the younger dude in green shirt. Dude…you bear a striking resemblance to my Kiwi friend Ian from Auckland. Do you have a brother by that name from NZ?

Yeas I am wearing the puke-green shirt. Scotty / Col is a very decent bloke and a bit of a world traveler. He’s got the travelling spirit and told me across Europe he has slept rough to allow him to prolong his trip. I have done the same, camping in barns across France and life is way more interesting when you adopt a ‘no-barriers’ attitude.

ScottyCol,

It’s always good to put a face to name!. Geez mate, you have a striking resemblance to Dave Crosby out of CSNY.

For those too young to know, CSNY is Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

hello barrie,i`m back in margarets now, a bit wet and windy, i stayed the night at perth airport and got the bus down this morning. i had walked from tuban to seminyak and back to poppies 2, i was sitting in the internet outpost reading baliblog, and when i had finished i asked the young girl if i could use thier phone to ring nick, and she told me nick had just left, he was on number 7 computer while i was on number 1, so i rang him anyway and he came back, so after walking and sweating all day, nick buys me 4 or 5 beers then takes the photo, nicks a cool guy, he looks like a pretty straight dude in his photos, but he`s cool. as for crosby, stills & nash, i was on the marrakech express but i never seen them there! scottycol…
