Meeting Ray from Australia in Seminyak Bali

ray070705.jpgToday while shopping in Bintang supermarket in Seminyak, I got a call from a familiar voice. It was Ray from Australia who is in Bali for a couple of months. Its funny because Ray has been reading Baliblog for a while and we have had sms'd many times, Ray asking me how the weather was from Australia. Ray has been to Bali about 25 times and this trip is a month gone already. I gave him direction to my Gang (alley) in Seminyak and met him when he was there. Arriving on motorbike with his friend Wayan, Ray quickly got acquainted with Ika and the family. Little Jevon was on the receiving end of some baby clothes, which we greatly appreciate. I promised Ray to get the bbq fired up soon and am waiting for a friend from Australia to get back as we want him here to. Ika's dad is arriving tomorrow which will be cool. Ika looks a lot like her dad and I sure he's wondering how Jevon turned out.

Ray told me he plans to move to Bali and I can tell there's something special between him and Wayan. She runs a shop in Kuta and can you believe she’s 40 years old! They must put something in the rice out here, I'm 42 and look like her dad.

Ray was asking about villa rentals and I hope when he does make the move it's in my neighborhood or at least somewhere that allows us to get together for a drink!

Alright Nick and bloggers ses regulars,

I will be making my forecasted trip to Bali a priority as yesterday i was caught undergroung at kings Cross at the front of the bombed out tube train. It was a horrendous experience but i managed to exit my tube carriage by smashing the whole of the side windows out with my steel capped shoes and walk along the line to the nearest station where the emegency servies started to make there way down worried about a second blast. Anyway i got out the station and was treated for smoke inhalation and shock and basically am a1 now and have even got into work this morning as i aint goin to let these small minded bastards stop me from going about my business or terrorise me. But a lot of people didnt make it and i mean a lot as even now 24hrs after the incident there are a lot of people who died trapped where the tunnel collapsed. YoU read about all these bombings like the Bali bombing , Madrid and all the daily bombings in Iraq and never think you will be caught up in anything like that. Anyway i seen a lot of terrible sights which you can imagine and my heart goes out to the people and their families who were just going about their business yesterday or on their way to work and were suddenly taken from thiw world by these toss pot cowards actions.

Anway on a more cheery note it looks like things are coming together for me to have me long overdue 3 month visit to Bali as my present contract will be expiring soon and i am just seeing it out due to my loyalty and basically to get as much smash as possible so i can spend the maximum amount of time in Bali as you are allowed as a visitor. Does any one know how long this is, as it would be useful to know and plan ahead.

Regards Mark S

G’Day Mark,

Geez mate, so glad you are okay and survived. It’s an experience I would never like to have. Take it easy mate and bend the arm with a few bevvies.

At the moment the VOA is 30 days but there are rumours it will be extended to 60 days but when this will happen no one seems to know. Typical eh.

An alternative is to go to the Indonesian Embassy in London and apply for a 60 day tourist visa. You fill out a form, give them a passport foto and handover a fee (in Oz its AUD$60).

The other alternative is to apply for a Cultural Visa which means you will need a sponsor in Indonesia. Involves lots of paperwork, more fotos and a larger fee (in Oz it was AUD$125).

Mark that is scary mate! We’re glad you’re alright and I am looking forward to meeting you in Bali.

On the visa I agree with Barrie. You should apply for a visa at the Indo embassy downtown, I’ve been there years ago its close to the law courts, I think. A 60 day visa would work. BTW, you can get an extension by making arrangements with a travel agent in Bali to pay a ‘little something’, so you will be able to stay 3 monthes if you already have the 2 month visa.
