Meeting Marie and Jean-Baptiste in Kuta Bali

I was sitting in Internet Outpost this afternoon like I usually do, concentrating on typing without making mistakes when a female voice said ‘”excuse me you must be Nick.”

The voice belonged to Marie from Belgium who is starting her tour of Bali with her boyfriend Jean-Baptiste ( JP ).

We moved over to the couch area and chatted about their trip and I offered some suggestions as far as route and renting a motorbike. Marie told me she has been following the Baliblog everyday for 4 months and has even printed some of it out. I told them that when I’m typing this stuff I have about half a dozen people in mind and its always amazing for me when strangers tell me they’ve read what I’ve written.

Marie and JP look like the poster children for healthy backpackers. They are heading to eastern Bali and I gave them my cell phone number in case of trouble and to meet up with later.

I think Internet Outpost has done a great job of creating an environment, much like a traveler’s Starbucks where people can come to meet other people, hang around other travelers, check e-mail and use the phone.

Hi Nick,

It must have been a very boring day yesterday to write a whole topic dedicated to us, haha!
Anyway, we took your advice to go and see the secret beach and it was just lovely! Indeed, not a soul around and we were free to do whatever we wanted… We enjoyed a great Noodle soup in one of these tiny shop/warung along the road from Ulu Watu. Just us and the family who owns it. What a nice surprise in contrast to the busy Kuta area. At night we took Barrie’s advice and dined in Ketupak restorant; very romantic indeed!

We’re going to Sanur tomorrow and from there to Lembongan island, back to the main land, from there on to Lombok and then the rest of Bali (Amed, Ubud, Lovina and around…) before heading back to Kuta to have a drink with you!

Enjoy your further stay, we know we will!
Greetz,
Marie & JB
