Thursday midday I got a call on my cell phone from Jay Serle who was on his honeymoon in Bali with his wife Cheryl. Jay had emailed me a few times before and I wanted to meet him. We met at 3.30pm at Café Moka and soon got acquainted. Jay and Cheryl live on another paradise island, Maui. Jay was telling me the water there is so clear you can see 60 feet straight to the bottom. Maui has a developed side and a local side kind if like Bali.One of the big differences is the cost of living and Cheryl told me she saw a type of bag that would cost $60 in Maui for only $14 here. A couple of hours after buying it she saw it again for only $4! Bali has deals if you shop around particularly on arts and craft, clothing and furniture.
Jay told me he has lived in Maui for 13 years after retiring from the LAPD. He told me one story about the man who trained him being shot while on duty. Maui would seem a great place to go after working in Los Angeles.
Jay & Cheryl are staying at the Pelangi Hotel on Jl. Dhyana Pura and are planning to explore some of East Bali. I gave them my map and helped them with a few tips. Friday midday sitting in an internet cafe on Jl. Dhyana Pura. They both passed by and we caught up. They are going down to Uluwatu for a sunset dance and then heading to Jimbaran for fish on the beach on saturday.
I look forward to hearing how they got on.
