The economy may be down at the moment, but that doesn’t stop some people smiling. These 2 ladies were touting massage, and were jumping up and down 50 meters before I got there. They settled for a photo instead.
In Bali you are spoiled for choice with massage, starting with a cheap beach massage and going up the the Intercontinental spa. Some of the strolling massage ladies that come around, will give a local a 1 hour massage for 10,000rp, Ika told me. So don’t feel guilty when you get one for 50,000rp.

I have often thought of applying for a government grant of some description, or a Churchill fellowship, that will allow me to survey every masseur and massage technique used on the island of Bali. I feel that such information gained would be of huge value to fellow tourists. I realize that the task would be onerous, but I am willing to sacrifice myself for the sake of research!
