Malaysia has opened a new Honorary Consulate office in Kuta. Malaysia has strong cultural ties with Indonesia and sharing a somewhat common language, Malaysians can enjoy Bali without to much stress. Malaysian Airlines has 2 flights per day to Bali, making it an easy place to visit.
Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia, YBhg. Dato’ Zaenal Abidin Mahamad Zain, opened the office in Bali and said it will greatly help the Malaysian students who study at the University of Udayana in Denpasar. There are 73 right now and those numbers are expected to increase.
Roslan Othman, director of the Jakarta-based Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board, said “We encourage Malaysians to travel to Bali and other places in Indonesia like Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta.” He also said “Anything with Balinese touches from handicrafts, accessories to interior and architectural elements are now in vogue among Malaysians.”
Westerners often flock to nightclubs and high profile nigtlife venues. Malaysians often prefer restaurants and shopping places to partying, and do not in general, feel they they will be targeted by terrorists. Malaysians ranked as the 7th largest group to visit Bali in Aug 2005.
