One of my hobbies when driving around Bali is looking for nice chunks of land to build a house. There is a strong possibility I will never buy land or build a house, but I like checking places out and imagining the possibilities.
Driving up the NE coast of Bali from Celik to Singaraja I saw several nice areas. The location of Poincianna Bungalows is not one that I would choose straight away, but Nyoman has made it something special. NE Bali is remote and living out here would mean a trip to Kuta is 3-4 hours, the nearest supermarket, clinic, ATM being in Singaraja, over an hour away. The pros are sunny weather, not many tourists, cheap land, great ocean views, both on the beach side of the road and higher up on the hillside. I have to work in the tourist industry so living out in the sticks is not going to work for me, but for someone looking to build their dream house, options abound. As I was driving up the coast I was looking for stretches of forested land between the road and the ocean that are deep enough that the road noise won't be a factor. Maybe I'll buy a GPS sometime and mark a few of the places I find.
