Motorcycles are the mode of transportation most commonly used out here in Bali. I've never ridden one before so am learning where the brake peddle is while dodging traffic. Sean and I just rented ourselves a couple and after a 20 minutes lesson got onto Jalan Legian for a ride.
I know I have to work on my cornering and of course have to train myself to watch out for dirt patches and other obstacles. All that leaves is the local traffic, which is to say the least, crazy. I’m aware to a general traffic flow going on but there are also a ton of wild cards in there, people pulling out all the time, dogs running into the road, taxis and the lane changing habits out here ( there are no lanes so you make up your own ).
Will get pictures tomorrow.

I guess that would be me, Joe. And I need to learn how to ride the bloody things too, lest I ride on the back of Nick’s bike.
I give you 2 weeks before you injure yourself. You couldn’t pay me money to ride a motorcycle in Bali.
Michael,
I hope that you are wrong…but you never know.
Is this you by the way?

That ain’t me. I am on the web though.
I’ve seen too many tourists in Bali get hurt on motorbikes. It’s not worth it.
sounds like fun
it doesnt matter if youve been riding a bike for two or twenty years,in bali on a bike is going to be different. just go with the flow, use your horn as required and hati hati, pelan pelan, careful and slowly……………..
Yo Nick. I have been a motorcyclist for over 25 years. Listen to me!
You need to learn to ride properly, otherwise you’ll be dead (and bloody useless to me when I want to move there). I have *just* the book for you to learn the proper habits, and it is written for those who ride on the left side of the road (Bali style).
Who is going over there next? I will mail it to them for hand delivery.
