Josh Grillo asked me on Saturday afternoon if I wanted to join him, Kevin, Courtney, Camille, Mike and Greg for a ‘last supper’.
His brief time in Bali had come to and end and the crew were looking to go out with a bang. I suggested we go to Rumours restaurant on Jl. Oberoi in Seminyak and that seemed to be okay with everyone.
The rain was pouring down as it had been all day and I wore my rain jacket for protection while waiting for a taxi. My house is close to Jl. Dhyana Pura and I could walk to Rumours in 15 minutes but today I chose the dry option.
The 5 minute ride to Rumours cost me 4,000rp and one arrival at 7pm I saw the place was about 3/4 full. Rumours does international cuisine at very affordable prices and has a central rectangular bar plus free pool table. I reserved us a table for 7.30pm and immediately jumped into a pool game with a Swiss expat.
The place started to get busy and by the time everyone arrived at 7.45pm almost every table was either reserved or taken. The staff (2 very attractive hostesses ) re arranged the tables to fit us in. I ordered a glass of Australian Cabernet for a reasonable 28,000rp which was good. The bottle was going for 148,000rp, approximately the same as the deli price. Small Bintangs were going for 7,000rp, the Circle K price.
Kevin and Josh ordered some tuna spring rolls which were sensational. Josh told me they were the best spring rolls he’s ever had. “You can’t get this in America, nowhere.” said Josh.
For a main course I ordered a 200g sirloin steak and mashed potatoes and veg for 25,000rp. Everybody was raving about the place, the food, the prices, the atmosphere when in trotted 4 go-go dancers complete with very short skirts and water pistols. They jumped around all over the place, including on the counter for about 10 minutes and left. Rumours puts on a good time and Josh said this was undoubtably the best food he’s had in Indonesia.
Rumours is never going to break your wallet but before we could check the bill Kevin crept up and took care of it. Very nice of him.
I have to say for value, meaning good food for a very low price Rumours is the best restaurant in Seminyak.
The time was now 10pm and we decided to head to Paddy’s Pub in Kuta for a few drinks. I don’t usually go here but I must admit it was fun especially as everyone is super relaxed. We all grabbed a beer, I set us all up with shots of arak and stayed for about an hour or so. People seemed tired and started heading their seperate ways so I left too and went home.
A very fun evening with cool people. Josh is leaving today at 4pm and the rest of the crew will around for a while still.

Rumours kicks ass! They are competiting on price which they win hands down, but they also serve great food in a fun atmosphere. People I’ve taken there say it feels like a hip New York restaurant.
I’d have to put Rumours at the top of the list for restaurants in Seminyak. You can quote me on that.

Nick, I have to agree, Rumors certainly sounds like a great cheap place!!! Especially when someone else coughs up for the entire bill!!!!!
