After a massive storm last night the skies are clear and its Bali weather today.
I’m sitting in Interent Outpost enjoying the new fast connection, the place is about a third full. In 15 minutes I have a meeting with 2 ladies from Tassie, Australia which I’ll tell you all about afterwards.
It was quite funny the other day as I was coming out of another interent cafe and someone I’d never seen before said ‘there’s Nick’, it was Michelle and Patricia. I was telling them about what I’d recently got up to and of course they said ‘we know’ which is scary! They also know what Tracey and Angie have been up to.
We’re meeting at Pub Bagus although if its too noisy I’ll take them around the corner to Maccaroni which I want to check out.
I wrote a guide piece on Balinese family compounds which you might find interesting. I know when I first came to Bali and went up to Ubud I couldn’t figured out why the compound that my room was in had all these strange raised strucures with alters all over the place. This might help clarify.
A friend Miguel called this morning offering me to accompany him to Desert Point Lombok (the best wave in the world) for 3 days. He told me that during this first election phase everythnig will be shut, which seems a giant waste of time in a poor country. Having been recently I declined but might have to think of a side trip to document while Bali is on ’shut down’.

NICK!
The writing is on the wall - it’s time for a reality TV show based on your life in Bali.
It could be “a show about nothing…. You wake up brush your teeth - there’s a show! You ride your motorbike to the bintang market - there’s a show! brilliant jerry, brilliant!”
But seriously!
The numbers would probably make sense. You could make the pitch to the australian networks as:
> i have x visitors per day to my site
> bali sees y visitors from auz each year
> i can take the lonley planet guy in an arm wrestle ANY day
Now we just need to find a way to build in some sexual tension, and/or conflict…. hmm..maybe you should try running for office on a platform of changing the VOA regulations? ![]()
Or better yet, backing a candidate that supports the same.

^oops. double post :\
Nick, do you remember Rebecca, the tall skinny blonde Dutch girl who came to Tj’s? Well she has just spent 3 days with me in Ballarat and is now on her way backpacking thru Sydney and Northern Australia. Its great the people you meet and the real friends you make travelling. Anyone out there worried about travelling to Bali by yourself, DON’T BE, you will have a great time!!
Angie, yes I think I called her Rachel and hoped no one would notice. Glad she made it down there.
Why would you ever want to leave Ballarat?
Actually Nick, you called her Barbara!!
Ha ha. How are the interviews going for your personal assistant?! It’s my birthday today (no April fools jokes please)thinking of cruising down to Jimbaran for a seafood feast, mmm just dreaming. Actually going to La Porchetta and taking the kids to the circus!! Doesn’t take long for reality to kick in.
Nick,
I think I’d be a great personal assistant!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANGIE!!!
Have fun tonight for dinner with the kids, Ian & the circus!!!!
Happy birthday Angie. Actually I only mentioned to 1 person that down thel ine I might need an assistant. I need someone who is computer literate, has a phone, motorbike and can put up with me.
I’m your Gal!!!!
I will see you soon Nick to beging my role!
G’Day Nick,
Didn’t even know you wanted an assistant!. Hmmm.
Hi Bazza,
Exciting isn’t it… I wonder who the lucky girl/guy will be….?
Hey y’all have a great weekend…
Gede is doing O/T Sat & Sun, so I will be stuck with the house work!
Have a great one!!!!
Hi Tracey,
Yeah, it’s an opportunity to work in paradise. Any plans of heading back to Bali towards the end of the year?. I’ll be there then and it would be good to catch up since I missed ya last time.
Have a god one as well, and a great weekend!
Barrie & Tracey, hi to you both, don’t get too excited about the much coveted chief executive assistant to Nick position, I don’t think the wages are great and are more in line with average Balinese equivalent, might get you a Nasi bungkus a day tho!!
Hi Angie,
Working with Nick ain’t too bad. We seemed to get along just fine when I was in Bali. Actually rather enjoyed the writing.
Now bungkus is just yummy and that’s all a good writer needs to keep the fingers typing away. What’s this ‘wages’ thingie!?…irregardless when you are doing what you enjoy most in life. Yaitu, travelling and writing.
Barrie, at this stage we are looking at returning in March next year… As a good friend from Seattle & her hubby are headingover then & are pregnant at present, he is Balinese & a very close friend of ours, so really hope to see them then…
Angie,
I’d work for Bungkus, I’d be in Bali, all would be well!!!
