I took a walk through Kuta Square today at lunchtime to check out the tourists scene.
Kuta Square is a narrow street that has developed in the last 10 years from budget accomodation to a shopper’s paradise. Its wall to wall food and clothing, with a KFC on one end and a McDonalds almost at the other end.
Motorbikes line much of the curb space and a Parkirman will collect 1,000rp from you for the privelage. He’ll also assist you by blowing his whistle to stop traffic and pull you out when you are leaving.
The Matahari deparatment store is on this street which is a very handy place to shop for electrical adaptors and equipment, clothing, footwear and a vast assortment of daily items. In front of Matahari there is a wonderful array of pirated software and other things like watches and cologne. These guys are doing a trade with the increased tourist numbers we’ve been getting recently.

Looks familiar, Nick. All my “Nike” watches are still working fine, btw.
