I wanted to try something different this morning so instead of going to Cafe Moka on Jalan Seminyak I went to Bali Bakery at the bottom end of the bypass. Sean and I had been here before and it is another popular place with expats. The morning crowd isn’t nerly as busy as Moka though, maybe because of the very busy traffic outside.
I ordered one of the set breakfasts which turned out to be a cappuccino and 2 large chunks of French bread, toasted covered with a ham, mushroom cheese topping, plus some green beans, broccoli and carrots on the side. Rather strange combo for breakfast but it was okay for change. There were 3 other customers and about 7 staff, all smiling and eager to serve.
I finished, jumped on the bike and rode down Jl. Pantai Kuta to the beach and snapped the scene there. The beach break comes in pretty flat meaning the wave are parallel to the beach and usually dump in a line. This means surfing a long ride isn’t going to happen that much but today the waves seemed bigger than usual and some guys were getting short rides.
The scene here is a mixture of local guys and Japanese who love it when 50 other guys are out there with them. This contrasts to westerners who prefer it when the competition is home in bed.
As usual various vendors wandered up and tried a selection of tactics ranging from this shell seller who hovered patiently, to the sarong/massage ladies who approach directly and ask ‘you want massage, buy one sarong’, to the young surfer guy who talked with me for 10 minutes about surfing before edging towards ‘what is your schedule today, would you like to rent my board.’

Nick,
you could not possibly be counting down like I am!!!!
I heard today there was another bombing, a KFC was blown up in Bali, although the source may have meant Jakarta…Have you heard anything about this?
I will call my husband tonight too & ask him.
Catch ya…..
Nice reading Nick and I specially liked the fotos of the surf. Ya gotta feel sorry for the sellers on the beach. With hardly any tourists, they must really be feeling it.
Hang in there Tracey!. All good things come to those who are patient. My wife rang me last night from Java just to tell me how many days are left for us!. I got a scare because I thought something was wrong. Of course she rattled off a long list of things for me to bring from Oz.
Haven’t forgotten the boutique beer for you Nick!
See you tommorrow Rob at Warung 96. I’ll try to stand out.
Hi guys. I leave tomorrow at 9.00 Sydney time. Should be there around 1.00 Bali time. My plan is to be sunburnt and Bintanged by dinner time. Shouldn’t be to hard. Dinner at Wurung 96 around 7.00
