Komang Armadi: A face from the past in Kuta Bali

armadi080205.jpgMonday afternoon I was walking around Jl. Pantai Kuta after checking out the growing surf and passed a small temple across from The Wave restaurant & bar. A voice called 'Nick' and I looked around. Not seeing anyone I recognized I continued and the voice again called 'Hello Nick'. Taking a closer look I saw it was Komang Armadi from Singaraja. Sean and I met Armadi more than 2 years ago working in Captain Haddocks on Jl. Benesari. Armadi is a lively personality and a real star for any business. She had worked at Double D on Jl. Legian for over a year and had asked me to remove all mention of her working at Captain Haddock. Now she did the same again asking me to promote her name with The Wave.

Armadi has had some family illnesses to deal with and is actually looking good these days. I asked her about the little temple and why it was so covered in canang, the trays of offerings. She said there was a corresponding temple in the Besakih temple complex that people visit when there. It relates to prosperity, so all the businesses in Kuta must visit this one. There seemed to be no shortage of believers and people were hoeing up with bags of offerings.
