Just got back from a hellacious hike in Karangasem Bali

Over the weekend I took a road trip to Karangasem province in east Bali with Mick Turnbull of Indo Bike Adventures. Our mission: To climb the highest peak in Bali, Gunung Agung, which is also the home to the most holy spot in Bali, Besakih temple.

Our plan was to hike through the night and watch the dawn. I want to give a quick look at the sunrise and view from the mountain. In this shot we saw the coast down by Candi Dasa, 30 kms away. I am totally wiped out right now as are the other people who went and a full account of our adventure will appear as soon as possible.

Looks incredible, Nick. Maybe we’ll get time to have a crack at this in December. Or will it be too humid and wet?
