The latest terrorist to appear in the news in Iwan Darmawan, also known as Rois, the planner of the 2004 bombing of the Australian embassy in Jakarta. Rois was sentenced to death for playing a major part in the bombing. Many visitors to Bali and other parts of Indonesia hear stories in the news about JI (Jemaah Islamiyah), the main terrorist group in the region and feel uneasy. The conviction of Rois shows that at some level the government is serious about catching and sentencing terrorists.
The Australian embassy bombing killed 11 people including the suicide bomber. It is interesting that the Bali bombers were after Americans rather than Australians, but 2 years on they were actively targeting Australians. The reason for this is Australia's involvement in the Middle East. When you deal with ideological crazies, all kinds of weird connections can be made. The JI leaders want a Pan-Islamic state and hate Israel. The US supports Israel and attacked Iraq. Australia supports the US, so in some kind of twisted way that makes Australians and British people legitimate targets in some people's minds. Who would of thought in 2002 that Aussies on holiday could get blown up in Bali because the US supports Israel? Well it happened.
Rois is going to appeal the conviction but its not likely he'll get a result. President SBY, while a social conservative, is not in any way a religious fundamentalist. Let's hope Indonesia keeps tightening the net on the nutcases giving them nowhere to operate.

Hi Tracey,
Nah, can’t be. This guy plays fullback for Collingwood! (He, he…!)
This is just a show. He won’t be executed……and he’ll probably be walking the streets with Tommy Suharto in less than 10 years.
Hi bloggers ,
Ennnngggeeeerrllllandd Ennnggggeellllaaaanndd,
OOOOOZZZZZZIIIIIIIIEEEEEESSSSS YOU WERE ‘WARNE D’ Heeee heeeee
Yes the ashs are safely back where they belong as the convicts have had them taken back by force Pieterson.
Well what a crowd came out for the victory parade folks. Honestly it was a bigger crowd than when we won the rugby world cup againstthe Convicts.
The bus went right by my work and was followed by the vitcorious England womens team as well. (Some nice sorts there alrighty) I was perched high up on a window ledge making sure i was on the T.V. which my work colleagues stated they had seen watching it live.
I got some nice waves from the womens team for making an effort to be higher up than them and risking breaking my neck if i fell. But it was damn worth it though i’ll tell yas.
Roll on 2006/07 ashes series, because if it was as good as this one then were in for a treat.
Did you follow it Nick and what was it like in Bali the coverage and support for old Blighty. ?
Barry boy what was the feeling in town the morning after mate with the convicts. Good sports though !

Baz,
I think this baby is waiting for the Pies to win a game before leaving the safe cocoon of my womb!
Fell over today & thought that’d get things moving, instead I got a swollen ankle & leg, but bubs is safe!!!!
Magpies…. There’s always next year!!!!!
Hi Tracey,
Geez darls, the bubs will be in your womb for a bloody long time if you’re waiting for da Pies to win the GF!.
Maybe the Pies will be in for a chance next year but for now I will just relish in the Eagles firstly slaughtering Adelaide and then in the big (whoever they play) holding the cup up high for the West.
Now Tracey, you should be taking it easy and not throwing your body around. Glad you are okay except for the swollen ankle. You’ve now joined the elite Barrie club!.
If ya want the baby to hurry up and take the shute, then eat plenty of baked beans. True, no shit mate.
G’day Mark,
Here in the Antipodes the news isn’t so good. Calls for Ponting to get the chop - usual bullshit after a big loss. But hey, there’s always next year when you drag that sorrowful team over here to get your arses kicked by the might of the boxing kangaroo!.
Seriously though, BIG congrats to youse cos the boys outplayed Oz by a fanny mile.

Ok, I am off to dig out the Heinz tins that you seem to buy weekly & stack up the back of the pantry!!!! Without ever using any!???
Oughta be enough in there to get something happening!
Will be back later, if I am not stuck to the dunny!!!!!!
Congrats to all you crazy pommy cricket fans. Next year when your team returns for a rematch, the convicts will prove this big loss was just a fluke. Right, Barrie?
Crikeys, wonder if we are related????
