Jakarta Bombings at KFC

As a follow up to Tracey’s post, Did a google search and came up with a few stories on what actually happened…

It appears that a bomb went off at the Jakarta Airport and 7 people were injured.

Fo the folks who do not know, Jakarta is a city, but it is not in Bali. So this incident went off quite far from where Nick and Bali is. Not even on the same island. Of course, it is the same country. Maybe Nick will share with us if he even heard of this…

There has been articles about this bombing in the Jakarta Post. There were two other bombings in the same time frame, one at the UN mission in Jakarta also on Saturday and the other in Medan. The rumor mills are naming just about everyone as a potential suspect. The cops say it was probably GAM and GAM says it was probably the cops trying to discredit GAM.

I’ve had lunch at that KFC, its almost curbside at the airport.

Both the US and UK have reissued travel warnings to Indonesia as a result. It doesn’t change my travel plans any though, I’ll be in both Jakarta and Bali in August, rain or shine.

I heard tht there was small bomb in Jakarta airport’s domestic terminal outside a gift shop that injured several people.

I heard I was probably the work of the ‘Free Aceh Movement’.

Police and bomb squad officers arrived on the scene and domestic flights cotinued as usual.

I know that bombs are not usual but I grew up in London where small bombs were found frequently in cars and various public places (IRA). I remember at Heathrow airport cops used to walk around with machine pistols.

Anyway this definitely doesn’t help tourism but as far as a foreignor is concerned I don’t feel this should be a deterent to coming.

Thanks Sean & Paul.
I spoke to my husband last night & he laughed at me & told me it was in Jakarta not Bali. I had not heard about this here, which was why I doubted it would have been in Bali. I am not at all concerned either, if I was I would certainly not be taking our daughter with me in July. But he misses her & she him, so I have never once doubted going. It is like home to us too. There are not as many people coming with us for our Balinese Wedding etc as first planned as they have fears, but for myself & daughter we cannot wait…..86 days!!! YIPPEEE!!

The KFC was in termainal F which is part of the international terminal that is used for domestic flights . Garuda and Lion Air use section of the terminal . It happened at 0630am ( who has KFC at that time ?? )
The Australian Police involved in the bali bombing investagation will assist the Jkt police to see if the bomb material has any links to those used in Bali . Quite possible with the present trial of Bashir and the capture of quite few JL memebers. For those of you who dont know , Jakarta is an 1 1/2 hr flight from Bali , however it could be a million miles away as it is different in everyway !! Same country differnt people !!
Cheers Mick
