We are having an Indian summer, or maybe an Indian winter in Kuta Bali.
I checked the surf at Pantai Kuta yesterday and there were some very nice sets rolling in. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many surfers on Kuta beach at one time and was amazed that people weren’t getting run over.
The surfing recently has been messy and yesterday was the first clean stuff for a long time. The local boys were tearing it up as usual and the newcomers from around the world seemed to be enjoying trying to stand up. Learning to surf is a lot of fun here.
Today I was at Okie House travel agents on Poppies II checking on some prices for a friend and noticed tourists walking who were sweating profusely. As I walked towards the beach I could understand why…its a hot one today again, blue skies all the way.
At the final corner of Poppies II before the beach is a thick little bundle of t-shirt shops. They weren’t doing much when I passed and the ladies passed the time making offerings. This lady told me pretty much to name my price on shorts…”30,000rp, okay take it.”
Most of the businesses are back to full speed after Galungan and I talked to my friend Kadek who took 3 days off to go back to the village in Karangasem. She’s only 15km from Besakih temple, the largest temple in Bali, but gave offerings at the local village temple instead. She told me at 5am on the morning of Galungan they started ceremonies, giving offerings and recieving blessings and finished at 10am after visitng different parts of the temple and repeating the process.
What’s happening tonight here in Kuta? Maccaroni restaurant on the corner of Poppies II and Jl. Legian has a wine tasting at 7.30pm and there is live music at Mama’s restaurant, Apache Reggae Bar, Hard Rock Cafe, Espresso Bar, Kama Sutra, All Stars Surf Cafe, New Bounty Ship and Mina Bar & Restaurant.
Live music can also be found in Seminyak at Jaya Pub, Warung Music, Bush Telegraph, Wow Cafe, Benny’s Bistro with JP’s featuring Buena Tierra Latin Band and Santa Fe featuring Star Mention Band.
For the party crowd you’ll find Hu’u, Double Six, Space, Anmesia and Liquid right there for you serving up a great array of cocktails and techno / dance music featuring some visiting DJ’s from around ther globe. Show up after midnight and these places should be rockin’.

hay nick, is there a clean place in kuta to get a tattoo done we will be there in late march and my daugthers boyfriend wants to get one done. also can you tell me if its very difficult to get a garden statue sent back to melb and is it expensive.
G’Day Nick,
Name your own price for clothing eh. Does this mean that there are a lack of tourists in Bali?.
What I’m after mate is Ordinance Maps of Bali. Know any places where I could get these?.
Robyn,
I will ask my hubby for name, directions etc for places to get tattoo’s done. My husband (Gede) has many, if you have seen his picture in this site, I will ask him the best places to go & let you know…
But I believe most places are clean, they all use new needles, but as anything some are better than others. There is a place near McDonalds on Jln Legian, above a couple T-shirt shops I think Diesel & mambo or something, Called Beer Garden, there is a tattoo shop in the back area of the restaurant, it is pretty good. But I will get details from hubby.
Robyn,
There are tattoo places all over. The one I pass everyday is located on Poppies Lane II close to the corner with Jl. Legian. I don’t have any tatts so can’t tell you how cleran they are. This place looks okay from the outside. I think Tracey’s husband Gede would be a good person to ask.
Re-garden statue sending. I know a shipping company on Jl .Dhyana Pura and have a list of their rates. Sea freight is by size, air freight by weight. You can definitely ship it. Just depends on how quick you need it and how heavy it is.
When you’re here we’ll go to the shipping place.
Barrie, there are tourists here but there has been a lull after the quick New Years boost. Plenty of domestic tourists at the beach today. Ubud pretty empty.
No answer on the OS maps. Would the Indo government have a mapping department?
Seems to be quite a market for F**K themed t-shirts. My kind of place. I was once arrested in Little Rock AR for wearing a t-shirt advertising an album by the band Big Black

Robyn/Andrew I have not forgotten. But ended up at Parents for a swim & BBQ dinner last night… Getting home late, I will ask Gede to write down names, directions & a name to drop, will let you know ASAP!!!!
Hey Robyn/Andrew…
Here is one that Gede highly recommends…
It is called “Black Angel Tattoo Studio”
On Gg Benesari near Un’s Hotel, (ask Nick for Directions!) The tattoist’s name is Della & mobile number is: 0818551196. Tell him Gede from “Heart Beats” now in Melbourne sent you!
Nick be sure to be there camera ready for the tattooing!!!! Your next!
Thanks Tracey & Nick for all your help. I look forward to meeting up with you Nick, maybe we can have a bintang or two …….Could anyone give me some feedback on the Bounty Hotel? Because l have 3 16 year olds with me l need somewhere pretty decent so maybe some advice on where to stay. Thanks again.

Robyn,
If the 16 year olds intend to party etc, then Bounty I am sure will be a great place, it is full of generally Aussie party animals… Are you sure you want to be in amongst that noise though? hee hee hee. I have nevr stayed there bt know of heaps of people that have & do. i ahve been in some rooms & I think the back rooms would be best as you no doubt would like some quiet, yet the front rooms near the front pool are the party goers… Often it starts once the people are home from their night out, so can begin early in the morning!!!!
But I think it will be good fun for the 16 year olds!
