Rainy seasons mean rain at least once a day. Here in Kuta Bali its been several times a day for the last week with some heavy downpours.
The area of Jl. Seminyak outside Cafe Moka is reguarly flooded as well as other section of Jl. Legian heading downtown.
Sean, Chris and I just ate lunch at Ryoshi Japanese restaurant in Seminyak and I took off to Internet Outpost on Poppies II. Man it hammered down while I was riding. My waterproof jacket kept my upper part dry but its ’squelchy squelchy’ on my seat right now.
I’ve been rushing to get stuff taken care of for my trip to Brisbane Australia which starts tonight at 2230hrs at the airport in Tuban, its always an adventure and the ‘little somethings’ the immigration guys ask for begin here.
Last night was enjoyable as Sean, Chris, our friend Farida from Java and my friend Nina from Bali all went to Mykonos restaurant in Seminyak for dinner. Mykonos has a few branches in Sanur and Ubud. Its affordable an fun with a good selection of starters and main courses. It had a snapper for 35,000rp while Sean, Chris and Farida went for the mixed grill. Sean loved his and we teased Farida, who is muslim that the sausage was made from horse lips. She knew we were kidding but proded the meats with curiosity before eating. Nina had some calamari.
The guys were wiped out after a pub crawl through the nightclubs of Seminyak the previous night. They went home with Farida to watch a movie while Nina and I went to JP’s on Jl. Dhyana Pura to watch some live music. JP’s is a cool place that attracts many expats. They have a live music with world music focus 7 nights a week.
The drink list had a decent selection of cocktails. I noticed Margaritas were not on the menu which they should fix if they want ot please American visitors. I went for a Caipirinha for 35,000rp. My next 3 drinks were Arak Madu’s for 15,000rp. Actually they don’t taste that different.
We were joined by Tarry from Melbourne. We met in Internet Outpost and he has been freaking me out with his knowledge of what I get up to. I tell you the blog is like an invisible camera, I write this stuff but half think its for myself. Then someone like Terry pops up and ask me questions about my ex girlfriend, knows where I live and what I did 3 nights ago!
The rain lashed down and the outside people crowded in closer, I could almost reach out and touch 4 different people. We noticed a lot of cops out in the street and I was thinking ‘coup’? It was probably part of the ongoing effort to check against car bombs.
The atmosphere in JP’s was fun and with the lead singer doing a Louis Armstrong version of Bob Marley’s ‘No Woman No Cry’ the rain just didn’t bother us. I’ll see Terry and Nina again when I get back in January.
Lately I’ve using way more taxi’s than usual due to having the guys here and the rainy weather. I like Bluebird which is the light blue cab. They have a dispatcher and the drivers aren’t out to rip you off. Their number in 0361 701111 and in the evening you’re looking at 15-20 minutes for a cab. Flag rate is 4,000rp. When I am not sure of an address I phone up my local contact and get them to talk to the driver while we’re enroute, this works well. Be sure to have plenty of small bills handy, all taxi drivers pull the old ‘don’t have change’ routine from time to time especially if you’re in a party group where they think you’ll just toss them the extra.
Things I still have to do today before heading for the airport are handing back my motorbike to Nyoman, Nyoman and Nyoman, making sure my moneybelt has the ‘crown jewels’ ( money, passport, ticket ), remembering to pack more than 1 pair of underwear and finding something to do with remainder of the Jim Beam that Vincent and Akari left ( they have rented a cool place in Ubud by the way).
Phone is ringing and I’ve got to go.

Hi worldwide mike, I, like Juliana, was surprised to see her photo on your site as I had read she didn’t want her photo on the blog. Respect is a two way street Mike, you have to give it to get it. Even those hawkers in Bali deserve your respect and tolerance, they are only trying to feed their families. If you are looking for the spirituality and heart of Bali, you will see it every day just watching the Balinese play with their children, relax with their friends and make the simple offerings that they do as part of their every day lives. First open your mind Mike, then your eyes.
Nick almost everuone I know, has a look on the Blog now, just to see what you’ve been up too…

Tracey, where did you see that cost? I
called that ph no and the flight centre guy didnt have a clue! Also seen same
special mentioned on another Forum.
By the way, I love this site! I read it daily and have a chuckle to myself about all the adventures you are having over there!
Hey Jenni,
I registered as A Flight Centre Member on the net & they regularly e-mail Specials, mind you I am not sure they HONESTLY uphold them…..!?
It is for first 16 passengers, the first person to get thru(if it is infact an honest offer!?) would probably book all 16 seats???? Who wouldn’t how coukd you not find 16 persons to pay $99 ea to go to Bali????
They have advertised other offers & a friend of mine called & requested info about the special & the girl gave him all the details etc, but when he said he wanted to book they put him through to Bookings & they said offer had closed, but because he was “SO” close they offered for an extra $500 he could tsill get it!!!! Ha Ha Ha that was more expensive than a price he’d been quoted at another place already!!!!
Or they take your details & NEVER call Back, I have read on other Forums people checking out Bali specials & never ever getting called back by Flight Centre!!!???
Let us know if you can infact get thru & if they uphold the $99 offer!!!!!!!
Thanks Tracey
Gotta love Flight Centre!
For me, blogs are *public* journals or diaries with photos. Your comment about someone knowing what you did three nights ago indicates your words are not only read, but remembered. You’re becoming a celebrity, Nick. In your profession, that’s a plus.
