After 15 minutes of trying I got online at Global here in Bali! Feels like an achievement.
Connectivity in the whole island is sketchy and up till now this has been the most reliable place.
Just ate at Gateway to India on Dhyana Pura. My meal was a vegetable curry with rice price with a Bintang kacil ( small beer ) 30,000rp. It was pretty good and I was craving that certain Indian taste and texture. They serve the food in little Indian style pots with condiments of tiny onions, mint sauce and a darker sauce.
The view isn’t much too speak of except that its on Dhyana Pura the Seminyak party alley so handy for Friday and Saturdays.

I’ll comment on this Dunk since I am familiar with Nick’s set-up.
Nick does not hook up his laptop at the cybercafes. though he could (I did a few times) the cost is for hooking up your laptop is more expensive by about 5x.
Unless you have special software on your laptop that you need to use with a data connection - why bother with hauling it around. It is a big pain in the arse to carry it when cyber cafes are on every corner.
Sean
Hi Sean - thx for the response.
I am going to be spending about 1 month in Bali sometime between Nov this year and Feb next year - I have a s/w development contract that I can work on from anywhere - so where better than Bali? ![]()
I can do all my work on my laptop, however i will need to periodically (probably once/week) upload my work to the servers back here (”here” being Canada) - hence my question about connectivity… (I am aware that speeds are slow in Bali - I have worked there before at Balicamp - http://www.balicamp.com)
I agree about lugging around a laptop - without the work thing, I would not be taking my computer with me…
thx for any advice,
D.
Nick/Sean - another quick question.
Looking into accomodation - Hotel Prawita looks good for us - do you recommend trying to book online, or just turning up and getting a room?
Again, likely arrival is not until mid Nov - when i assume it is not too busy..
Many thx,
D.
Hi Dunk,
We stayed at the Prawita for 5 weeks this year and for the last 4 years…no need to make a reservation…they are not online …you will just get a middleman and pay more. We paid 17.00 including a mini fridge. Try to get one of the rooms way in back..they are definitely nicer. One thing I would advise is to put something heavy on the drain in the bathroom…we had an unexpected guest one night!
Marie - thx for the good advice.
I am curious! What kind of visitor? was it of the slithering or creepy-crawly variety?
Dunk.
Hi Dunk…neither slithering or creepy crawly….just a plain ole fat rat!
Hey Nick - just wondering - which ISP do you use when you plug in your laptop (i.e. who do you dial-up to) - or is there some way of piggy-backing on the internet cafe’s connection?
Cheers!
D.
